I just installed new prop shaft seals. My 115 2 stroke has a different style thrust washer (not the same as the specified part in the service manual). I think I should change to the correct part (6E5-45987-01-00) because the new seals are so deep in the cavity I really think something should be on top of them to help hold them in place. (The drive shaft seals have a cap that secures them below the impeller plate.) Does the thrust washer you installed here fit inside the outer shaft housing and rest against the top seal? Or is there a space between the seal and the bottom of the thrust washer?

How do you grease a stiff throttle on a tiller Yamaha?

If you lift the motor after the initial drain and bring it down again you will be surprised how much additional oil will drain out. It will also make way less mess when you unscrew the filter :)

I cleaned a rebuilt everything and replaced all of rings and gaskets put everything back in spec and mine still takes forever to start even on a summer day. It’s a Yamaha F50TLRA 2002. 120psi compression all spark plugs are sparking well. The starter on cranks one second at a time and drops back down and it takes about 20 times for it to fire and then it runs fine. Any tips?

Why does Yamaha recommend 46 ft lbs of torque if it doesn't require much torque to hold the nut on? Seems a little shady. Always go by the manufacturers recommend torque specification. Otherwise you could find yourself missing a prop.

There are not enough superlatives to describe your videos! I learned so much about so many things - the actual water pump impeller check, various greases, how you use your tools, hydraulic locks from grease in the wrong places......Now, how do I get my motor from the US to you because we just don't have shops of your excellence here in Maine. I guess I'll just have to watch every Yamaha 50 video you put out. You do all of us such a huge service by making these great videos - including all the tips along the way. Thank you just isn't enough. I got concerned about my impeller when I found coarse sand in the water pump indicator stream. After clearing the sand, the starboard (right) side return hose is still not free flowing. If you have time to comment, how concerned do I need to be about cleaning the entire system?

Gen II drives only need to be remove for inspection every three (3) years (as per Mercruiser's own service manual). A visible inspection of the bellows from the outside is all that's required. MC-1, R, MR and Alpha One drive DO need to be done annually.

Appreciate the video as im currently having trouble getting my lower unit back on all the way on my 115 yamaha. Just did the impeller change with no issues other than the woodriff key, but now this darn lower unit just wont cinch up all the way. Im fairly sure its somehow hanging up on the shift shaft spline. My question to you is....ive watched numerous other videos as well as comments stating that it's best to leave it in gear when re-installing the lower unit...reason being, so that you can slightly turn the prop to help line up the splines. But on your video, you are stating to keep it in neutral. Since im having major problems trying to get this back on, ill take any advice possible to help me somehow get this lower end back on. Your thoughts are appreciated! 😎

I took my drive off and separated both halves to replace all the seals. After I put it back on and took the boat out I found out that it will not fully accelerate. It will go into forward and reverse gear but when I try to speed up the engine bogs down and it won't go any faster. It worked perfectly fine before I took the drive off. Any suggestions? Could the driveshaft not be aligned properly?

Following and rechecking based on comments to another user - my carbs have been fully cleaned, and I simply have a bog when you hit it and also a miss at about 1/3rd throttle. This is a 30hp merc 4 stroke 1999. I went to add/adjust the idle mixture a little richer - but there are no adjustment needles - there is a boss in the casting which looks like it may have been in the past but no longer. Idle is perfect. You can nurse it up to higher power and it is perfect up there. Coming back down I can create a miss consistently, but only in a tight range then it goes away. I don’t have a tach easily available. It would seem to me that I need to go a size larger in the low speed jet. - any alternative suggestions?

This was a great video. I bought my first Yamaha outboard recently and had no idea what was involved in doing this job. The only mistake I made was somehow I bumped the gearbox into gear and didn’t realize it until I tried to put in back in. Once I realized my mistake it went right back together. Saved myself the labor expense but more importantly the time to get it repaired. For some reason boat mechanics are really busy in the summer. 🤣

Hi! I followed your instructions for this, and afterwards my gear selector / throttle is very sluggish and requires some force to go forward/backward. I think i might have done something wrong with the gear selector in the shift shaft operator. Do you have any insight for this? The engine runs well, and goes forward/backward. Its only the throttle thats sluggish. Thanks for this video!

Hi, I have the same carbs on my F75 yamaha. I pulled the carbs off and cleaned them up, reassembled and reinstalled but still popping and backfiring at idle and worse with increased rpm. The only thing I didn't remove on the card was the idle jet on the side because the needle has a brass cap on the outside...should I remove this cap and remove needle screw or not. Great video, sure would b great to chat to you. Thanks
