Being cool is a vibe, it´s not about what you wear but how you wear it. I am sick of seeing the same outfits every day, I rarely see women wearing something original. I hate fast fashion. Second hands and small brand stores are the best. Homemade items take the cake. What is interesting is that being on a low budget actually makes you look more original because the cheapest way to get clothes you want is to make it or buy from a second hand. I like simple fashion, but focus on colours that match my season, skin undertone and flatter my body shape. Too many women just wear whatever is "trendy", but don´t consider if the colour, print or cut really fits them. Styling yourself into a one style like "clean girl" or "mob wife" also suggest lack of personality or originality. It´s not interesting and most of these trends are literally just about owning every single item that goes with that style. Why can´t you just wear different styles ever day? Why do you have to keep to your aesthetic? I noticed this pattern in our society that people just want to be categorized into boxes, whenever it´s social, political or even about your sexuality, people cannot phantom the concept of just being yourself, not belonging to any specific group. It´s uncommon to see people who are not inclined to put themselves in a box and I really dislike this loss of creativity, individualism and rebellion against the norms. Norms seem to be what everyone wants these days.

tbh i rarely care about what other people wear, wear, what you want, trendy or not. but these trends very much feel like their forcing young minds to stick with one style and aesthetic. which is just unrealistic in many ways, people want to grow and change and be unique but feel like these trends are stopping them. sure you can like a trend, but dont ever feel like you can't do something else.

I remember when glowing up meant looking after your mental health, working on yourself such as working out and eating better, using products that ACTUALLY work for your skin, keeping your ownership to minimum (not living minimistically, but, living within your means and decluttering what is stressing you/etc), basically being a you you love and adore - it was a way to find *yourself*, learn who you are, and enhance that whilst also working on things you weren't happy with and now it's some trend used to make people feel inferior... I'm at the point I've deleted all social media other than like one app to talk to my piercer/tattooist and that's it now. It's so sad to see what the internet has become in the past years.

My 2nd year of Uni's gonna start in a few days and the whole last month I was hyperfixated on buying new clothes and wear according to my "personal style". I bought a few stuff like tops, jewellery and shoes. For a long time I have been obsessed with mary janes so I decided to buy a pair of dupes, and after I did I tried wearing it and I got hit by reality so bad. I didn't like how it looked on me and wasn't going with my overall "style". Thats when I realised how much hyperfixated I was in getting a glow up and leveling up my style while I completely ignored my "personal style". I love baggy jeans because it doesn't touch my skin and I have sensory disorder but what I was trying to buy were "skin tight" flared jeans. That is why it hit me that I was just following trends instead of what makes me feel good and myself. Now I am returning the stuff that I bought and trying to not force a "glow up" on me when I don't even need it. :)

I’m not sure if this could also be expanded into one’s heritage. I’ve seen a lot of bashing towards those who prefer fashion outside of their own heritage. People making them feel they aren’t worthy to have their own taste in clothes that isn’t always centered around the validation from others from their cultural background. Or the superiority complex that gets attached to it.

Exactly girl .. that’s what I really want everybody to listen for , I’m really sick of those new trends and it’s just make me unsure about really what I love and what I don’t cause I’m a person who don’t have a specific style it just depends on my mood,so when I see the influencers and Pinterest I just feel uncomfortable, also it’s not about that only I lost my touch of styling I cannot wear something if I don’t scroll on Pinterest .. everything should be perfect and in aesthetically way in the world of social media and trends , so that’s really makes me take a step to delete ig and Pinterest . i hope everyone listen for that cause it’s really true .

I would also add that people tends to believe some aesthetics are combine with a certain personnality. For exemple, a grunge person would have to be badass, mean, and stuff like that.. It sucks so much

Best thing I did for my mental health was deleting my IG. Deleted my Twitter too during the pandemic because I was doomscrolling for hours. I refuse to download Tiktok or Threads. Social media used to be good when it was just a tool for communication. Now it's a giant marketplace where the sellers try to hit your weak points and make you spend your money so you can "feel good".

I agree. As for cheetah print, I have always loved it because my classmate’s mom who I always thought was so cool used to wear it all the time. I will love it no matter how overused and tacky it becomes. ❤

Thank you!!! I'm so happy that im not the only one who think that way. Trends are destroying us. Overcomsuption now is crazy☠️ We lost our identity, common sense and individual way of thinking and that's concerning. And I'm saying this as 19 year old. Period. Dont stop doing your job girl!! I keep worrying that I don't have one aesthetic. Tbh I like a bit of everything, I am not one thing and for me that just made me feel like I was a freak who didn't have any stability and when I would see girls online have their one thing, like that's their main thing, I would get instantly depressed and felt like something was wrong with me. I consulted with my parents about this and my mom assured me that there was nothing wrong (altho I do have to say I have been through things that have made me a little unstable in my head), that I needed to get my head out of the internet and stop worrying about what other people think or what others are doing. She told me I needed to detox and take time for myself to figure out who I am and that even if who I am is a little bit of everything, then that's just the person that I am and that I need to love it.

I'm not English speakers, so sorry for my mistakes. I'm so glad that someone begin talk about it cause when some thing became trends it captures all of stores and you just don't have a choice. And if you belong to "core" you should behave in certian way for match image. And thank you fot sub it's really useful for me❤

also the whole classifications of “cores” and “aesthetics” lead a lot of young teen girls (like myself) to believe sticking to one aesthetic and conforming yourself to that is the only option. I’ve seen so many people comment “What aesthetic is this?” like bro it’s just cool clothes or the original posters personal style no need to add a label for everything

Beautiful smart young girl , which is so rare bcuz everyone has been influenced by social media and they don't know that they are brainwashed , they making people think if they follow new trends and being tiktok pretty makes you cool and let you be that girl, wtf is " that girl" , and plus that we're not just having fast fashion we have also tiktok beauty standards like if u don't have button nose big eyes with long lashes and plumpy lips and and a silk hair you are not Beautiful like ughh I'm really tired i have tiktok just becuz some times i need new recipes or some tips on something , I'm being myself becuz i realized that all of that shit they do it for marketing to keep up w everything every year and don't mess any trend to buy all the items that you're buy in ut becuz u think u gonna look cool becuz it's trendy , thank u for talking about this subject, keep doing a great content like this and we'll gonna support you ❤❤❤

Divesting yourself from trends first involves you removing the voices around you from influencing your inner voice. When I quit Instagram, I could finally LISTEN to myself and what I WANTED. It’s been fun to figure out who I am without the need to chase trends or the idea of being a part of The Moment- live IN the moment, instead. 😊

great video! the way our society currently works depends on our insecurities so they can sell us the supposed cure, but defining your self worth through outside validation is a never-ending cycle, you cannot possibly keep up with all the new demands and trends. find what you really genuinely like and you will be much happier, even if it does not match up with anyone else's idea of "cool"
