Hey, I'm Alex! You've come to the right place if you want to see reviews of classic video games, features on emulation, arcade visits & walkarounds and deep dive documentaries on classic video game series, like OutRun, Daytona USA, Sega Rally and Ridge Racer.

The main emphasis on my channel tends to be on classic Sega arcade racers, but I also love arcade staples like lightgun games, platformers, shoot-em-ups, fighting games etc and also look at games from the likes of Namco, Capcom, Nintendo, Taito and Konami among others.

I do upload the odd modern gaming video or two, especially if it's related to a geeky aspect of pop culture I have an interest in, such as Transformers, Star Wars or Batman or if it's a modern gaming franchise with classic roots (like Resident Evil).

Email is for business enquires only. Please keep emulation set-up questions in the video comments only. Emails asking for links to games or questions about setting-up emulators will not be responded to.

    I don't know about your hand on heart swear... if this is your gameplay, you are missing a lot of basic mechanical knowledge in the game. xD Missing a bunch of Boost Pads... Going into Pit Zones with full health... Overturning or Underturning a lot of turns... Lots of windows for improvements. Joking aside, unlocking and beating AX Master Rank was the most fun I've had in a racing game. I never 100% beaten Story, got stuck on Hardest Chapter 5. (Edit) I should probably download Dolphin just to play this game again since we're probably never getting a Remaster. (Edit 2) I'm almost certain that Nintendo's comment on why F-Zero is dead was referencing the last 3 games they had made. Except they forgot to take into consideration that all three of these games were made in Mode 7 for the Gameboy Advanced. Not to mention that F-Zero 99 is ALSO made with Mode 7. They're comparing Mode 7 style games to the look and feel of F-zero GX and AX and that is just incorrect... We REALLY need a remake or remaster for GX on the Switch. Q~Q (Edit 3) I take back my joke from the beginning of my comment. That last video race was smooth as silk. :o I'd love watching you improve more on more tracks and experiment with custom vehicles. With an endless amount of customization, I'm certain you'd be able to find a car that fits your feel and personal taste.

    It's worth bearing in mind that the footage I obtained for this, was me just playing the game TO get footage for it, after having not played the game for many, many, many years - I was super out of practice. I was trying not to play like an absolute spaz, but I also wasn't trying to ace every part of every track and resetting the game if I missed a few boost pads - I just wanted some footage of every track and as many ships as possible, whilst also chucking in some story mode gameplay too.

    Great video. Scud Race is probably my favorite arcade game, and it's definitely my favorite racing game. Also, I'm a bit surprised you didn't mention the original DX cab and how it plays even more like Daytona USA than the revisions do. Btw, do you have a source for those maps you show at around the 8-minute mark? Is it from a Sega magazine or something? And is there someplace a guy like me could get his hands on those pdfs? The fact that it's in Japanese and English makes me think it's probably not the JP Sega Saturn Magazine.

  • @MrThunderwing
    @MrThunderwing5 күн бұрын

    @@justapickedminfan I only found out about the DX game and the fact it had different drifting and no rolling starts after I'd made this. It literally only just became playable in Supermodel a short while after I'd made this video public. I don't think it was ever playable outside of a few test locations in Japan. The images are from a Scud Race Guide book that came out around the time the game was released. Someone uploaded it in digital form on a racing forum I used to frequent called Rolling Start, but that forum has long since closed down. You can buy the original print version on eBay - if you've got a spare hundred quid or so.

    F-Zero all day every day. The sense of speed in Wipeout is just not there for me. It does get a little better in the Phantom class but it's still nowhere near as fast as I'd like for an AG racer. Even comparing it to more recent games, I think BallisticNG has a much better sense of speed than Wipeout does, and I think it might have to do with BallisticNG's wider field of view. Neither of these games are as fast as Redout 2 though. That game's sense of speed is absolutely bonkers. What really puzzles me though is people saying F-Zero is easy. I can only assume they haven't played it for more than a few minutes, and they've only ever used the Blue Falcon on early, easier tracks. Sure, the handling model is definitely snappier and more immediately responsive, but the faster, more competitively viable ships in GX tend to also be the harder ones to control, and can reap benefits from their low friction greatly as GX rewards you with increased acceleration and speed while sliding, and maintaining control while at severely reduced grip levels and high speed takes a lot of practice. It's why you see the Fat Shark and Black Bull careening down the track almost sideways carrying insane momentum. Add on the fact that the AI is extremely punishing, and while early tracks are wide and forgiving, it doesn't take long for the game to force you to learn its deeper mechanics to get around tight corners, slip through narrow straights wide enough for only one ship, make jumps to risky shortcuts with no railings, memorize boost locations, and thread the needle through barriers at a split second's notice. I'm sure Wipeout has a steep learning curve, what with its floaty handling model and tight, winding circuits, but to say F-Zero doesn't is just literally false.

I loved this game so much as a pup (and yes, I am one of those insufferables who claims to have beaten and unlocked everything when I was still wet behind the ears ;) My custom vehicle had the longest chasis and it was intended to *destroy* the other racers. All of them. And it was a terrific feeling when you have picked off all the other racers on a track. Literally all of them. If I could suggest one improvement for a re-release it would be to expand the custom decal feature. Allow more decals so you can make ones that connect elaborately. I'd likely spend as much time playing with that as with the game! Or just allow much larger decals so you can make intricate masterpieces to show off.
