I dont think that cut has enough power and momentum behind it to be effective. Dont try this against any armed foe you will just make them more angry while getting your position vulnerable

thx for the vid. but just to clarify its simple physics: you use the same amount of energy to run normally and like you show in the vid. just using different muscles. But your fighting same gravity to not fall down. Actually if i was smarter id probably explain why this method needs more energy because of using of the muscles that are not that strong as for example calfs while running normally and/or keeping yourself in very low position that needs using some other muscles more than if you would run in straight position. If this was better way of running then we would see athletes runnig like this to win tournaments. IMHO

The Japanese people also walked this way, and there was much written about it by the first western visitors.

I got the opportunity to buy one of two swords and I have a question. Starting out would it be better for me to have a curved blade or a straight blade and what suggested weight should I use. I've never purchased a sword but I borrowed them and I have an 8 and 1/2 lb two-handed Bastard Sword and I have an 11 lb two-handed Bastard Sword I've been working out with them now for 11 and a half months I'm working on smaller and thinner and faster blades. Anybody have a suggestion

Seems like the modern way of running gives more control over possible miscalculations/missteps on the running plane (i.e., falling on one's face)? With the modern way, you have more time and ability to correct. No?

Never seen marathon runners running like that. If it was more energy efficient. It would be a case.

I knew about how keeping the center of gravity on the same level (instead of going up and down all the time while walking/running), and this absolutely random gem of an YT video adds another meaning on top of that. Thank you Ace, thank you YT :)

Although I have a deep admiration for Japanese culture, and Asian cultures in general, I must admit that I am puzzled by the continued use of such things as chop sticks...and this "running" style. Neither are efficient. The spoon or fork is a rather late development in the west, becoming common table utensils not until around 1725. However, no comparison can be made as to the usefullnes of the fork over chopsticks. Even many Aisans who immigrate to the US end up having both aty the table. As to running, Samurai running would never work in the NFL, Track, Soccer, or even for fitness training. I doubt the Spartans ever used any running method other than the natural physics of human motion. As to the "shuffle"walk of men and women in Japan, maybe it's because the footwear - basically flipflops - dont stay on the feet well unless counter force is applied. I know from experience that flips like to "flip-off" at the slightest mis step. Perhaps the best historical "walkers" of all time were the Roman legions. They never wore sandals or flips. They developed a fully enclosed combat boot called caligulai, which had drainage/cooling slits, a fully layered leather sole with hobnails, and was ankle high. They did not shuffle or walk pidgeon toed, and could cover 25 miles a day - every day for two weeks travel, carrying up to 70lbs. Many things about Asian culture are very interesting, but not all of it is efficacious.

Typical use of weight-shift much used in Ninjutsu. The same principle applies to many manoeuvres. It is efficient and effective. 👍🏻

Also with this technique you take off from the ground, because you can not fall indefinitely, otherwise you would hit the ground with your whole body at some point. xD
