Phil Mendoza- The Alpha Bowhunting Project

Phil Mendoza- The Alpha Bowhunting Project

Data tells us that approx. 10% of bowhunters successfully fill their tag each year. Those who punch their tag on a mature bull or buck each year are more like 1-2%. It is my belief that to consistently become one of the top 10% of bowhunters you must prepare and execute like the top 1%
Join me as I try to implement tips and strategies of the most successful bowhunters around
A little about me
I grew in a riffle hunting family, we chased everything big game, a few small game critters as well. After college I had the desire to pursue bowhunting and in 2001 I harvested my first elk with my bow
In 2008 my local shop changed hands and in 2009 I decided to open my own range and pro shop in Denver called No Limits Archery
I have also competed on the ASA circuit and earned my pro card in 2013
To say that Archery has been a big part of my life is an understatement and now that I have 2 young boys my focus has changed to helping them experience all that Archery and bowhunting has to offer.

Wouldn’t powerstroke technically be measured from total draw length (string measured at full draw to throat of grip plus 1.75”) minus brace height (string at rest measured to throat of grip)? Thanks for the vid 👍

It's still the best video I've seen on the shot process. I keep it on my phone and find myself going back to it every time I'm on the range. Great work, thanks for doing this.

Hey man, I can't find anything about this. But does the Picatinny take noticeable weight off of the right side versus using the dovetail. I don't want to waste $50 buying the cbe picatinny mount but I'm having to use the sidebar right now because of the weight on the right side. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Even with a deer feeding perfectly side on at 50 yards. The chances of it still being there in time to cop an arrow after the bow goes off are pretty slim in my experience.

325 fps with a built Arrow. 400 grains * 325 fps = 93.4 ft. lbs. That's a few joules. My Personal Experience. The faster They get there. The more forgiving the Ranging Error is. Shoot 3D. Arrows are Expensive. Shouldn't shoot that far unless You can actually hit it.

There's one thing I don't understand.... 3 pin roller sight with 2 marker pins on a tape.... Set it for 20, 30, 40..... but you have an elk coming in around 70, 80, 90. How will those 3 pins match the 2 markers as you roll the 2 markers to touch 70 & 90 being that the drop at 20, 30 40 is much tighter then the arrow drop at 70, 80, 90, but the markers are fixed along with the pins. This setup only makes sense with a single pin but I don't work at nasa.

  • @matthewkyle6939

They won’t be exact but will reflect the number on the tape. Meaning no matter where your indicator is play on the tape they will be an accurate refference point

you can use good ol fashion Elmers white glue for the screws... its just enough hold but not loc tight, you can back the screws out if needed without worry ... even the phillips heads for the sight tape

I have the old red longhorn III and is by far my preferred hinge. I have got the longhorn pro micro too and there are 2 features that I would improve. First the “click” is almost inaudible, this is a problem in competition. Second I would have put a double moon like the ascent to full customise the travel before and after the “click”. Anyway great review, thanks.

Just ordered the Ultra I was super torn between it and the Rx7. I have a 28 inch draw so I could have got little more speed out of the RX7 but my gut said go Ultra. I ordered mine in the elevated 2 I like the way it blends in the woods and in Oklahoma we do a lot of tree stand hunting and some ground blind. I am hoping to build a arrow around 450 to 470 and able to get in there around 270 speed I will be happy there.

I'm having difficulty with this. I've lost one deer and that was four years ago. It has affected me every since. I've killed 12 deer since but I still struggle with it. I passed up a big 10 point last week at 160: yards (I rifle hunt). He was at the exact range I killed my two biggest bucks last year. I'm like WTF? I let three big does go this evening at that range. I gotta get outta my head!

Just something else to consider.. I respect all the animals I hunt and I only hunt game that I like to eat, but 1 animal that is super fun to hunt and doesn't have the same emotions or anxiety attached are hogs. Maybe go out and hunt some hogs, gain some confidence back with very little negative that can come from the outcome. Just a thought
