New England hurricanes are rare. 1815, then there didn't have another until the infamous 1938 hurricane. 6 years earlier they also had Hurricane Gloria.
John Hope was the man! I watched many hurricanes make landfall with him giving the play by play as a kid, including Hurricane Andrew in 1992.
Has to be one of the GOAT bloopers, given the coincidentally appropriate music for the forecast and the only serious competition at the turn of 1AM late Friday night/early Saturday morning likely coming from David Letterman having Chuck Woolery, Dabney Coleman and Blues Traveler. And this was back when college football was actually a REGIONAL affair... Whoever was living on the PA side of the Twin Tiers at this time sure has a gold-plated piece of TWC memorabilia worth sharing for the ages! (Yes, I do watch TWC when a big storm happens, but it sure as hell ain't the same as the good ol' days...endless memories of Dave Schwartz, the venerable John Hope and Charlie Welsh and when Mike Seidel looked more like a grunge rocker and Jim Cantore had hair.)
