    This wood is so amazing! The variety in colors and grain. The tight chaotic lines, with the birdseyes, the changes in colors within, that ring when you touch it and tap it... I can't wait to see the flutes that will come out of these!

    This is the highest level of grain I think I've ever seen. And nothing better than a Woodsounds flute to honor it. Amazing Brent! Beautiful choice of materials to go with it too. If I were to put it in a category, it could be a Legendary Masterpiece! 🙃

    Wonderful flutes! Very smooth sounding. Very unique markings on the Koa. I love the quick view of the creation process of the hawk. That Thai Cocobolo is intriguing to me... Great lines in the grain and colors. Beautiful as always!

    Hey Brent, both burls are spectacular but what really caught my eye is your granite machinest block. The good ones are + or - .002inch diagonally corner to corner. Awesome precision for making awesome flutes.

    This series came out amazingly. I think it's my favorite so far for a few reasons. The episodes are very easy and pleasant to digest. It shows great skill in fixing the tube that blew up when boring it early on. The flute is sooo gorgeous in the materials, the sound, the totem and even the non tapered shape and ultra smooth finish.

    I love the metal inlay on the shell... It's a crazy one too. This... "turtle" came out so great. I love the size of the head in proportion to the body and shell. Slightly bigger than the one on the Present flute.

    Gorgeous pieces absolutely lovely.. May I ask how you plot out your sound finger holes? Is there a formula for placing the holes in the right distance from each other etc... I use to make these rather roughly carved when I was a teen... I plotted the holes just by improvising....

    I love this video! Would you ever make a video of just someone talking about the voicing process and what they're thinking as they work? Are those high speed burs for the interior of the tone holes? When is it appropriate to use the step bit? What the heck is that custom burning tool?? Thank you for all of the beautiful work you share!

  • @woodsoundsflutes
    @woodsoundsflutesАй бұрын

    Hahahahaha!!! I loved your comment. I don't have videos that deal specifically with the voicing of the flute. It is the heart of the instrument and I am sure everyone has their little tricks of the trade. Yes, I use a ball carbide burr for the inside of the holes. I am astounded to see so many instruments that do not use the wall thickness as a tuning parameter. My burning steel I turned from iconel steel. It withstand high temps well and is corrosion resistant. So it makes a good burning too that lasts. I taper to 1/4, then 3/8, then 1/2 inch diameters. Of course most of the holes are in between these steps, but I find the steps help to make sure I go slow enough with control..

    There is no tablesaw in my shop. The table saw is the most notorious finger remover. The bandsaw does not have the same tangential forces that suck fingers into the blade. Still dangerous, but much more controlable.

    I agree 100 % with the description on this vid. This stage is awesome, when you really get a sense of how the flute looks like. How the grain moves around the shoulders and the nest area. The flap sander is so perfect for the flutes too! Rounds up everything beautifully and smoothens the wood so well... Love it!!
