Aly's Vintage Camera Alley

If you love vintage cameras and all things related to Film Photography, then you will love AVCA. Full of film reviews, film developing experiments, and tons of vintage cameras.

Aly loves to shoot with all types of film cameras, 35mm and medium format, such as the Nikon F, Leica M2, the Kodak Duaflex, and Mamiya RB67.

Aly strives to make informative and entertaining videos to simply help others who wish to be a film photographer or simply just learn to shoot with the camera they picked up at a flea market.

Videos are posted several times a month, and usually have an article linked to it for more info at AlysVintageCameraAlley.com

    I just cleaned up a similar camera and ran into the same issue as you did on the slider on the side. I gently used pliers to flatten the metal and it slid right out. Conversley once reinstalled, I bent it back. Fairly easy. One note i think you mentioned it controlled the aperture. It does not. The top, larger slider controls which apeture is selected. The sider you and i had trouble with controls whether or not the shutter stays open when actuated.

    I’ve been using my Mamiya Six Automat for about a year now and it really is an excellent camera. I read that the lens is a Tessar design which is why it’s so sharp. I really like the focusing wheel on the back, but I will say it’s my first rangefinder and I’m struggling a bit aligning things in the patch. On motionless objects with sharp edges it’s easy to focus, but busy scenes with, for example with lots of small tree branches, I find it difficult. I was also struggling with loading film until I saw your video short. It made such a big difference!

  • @AlysVintageCameraAlley
    @AlysVintageCameraAlley2 ай бұрын

    I’m glad to hear my short helped you! I’ve struggled with the same things myself. For focusing on busy scenes or movements, I tend to try to get something in the foreground or in the middle of the scene. If you’re wide open it’s even harder but if your aperture is small you can try for the middle of the scene and it should be good. Keep it up!

    @@AlysVintageCameraAlleyYours is missing a knob at the very top where the leather strap is attached. That's why there is a hole there instead of a regular rivet. If you look at the top of the camera assembly, there is another oval hole next to the top viewfinder where the paint has been scraped away that lines up with the hole in the cardboard case. That locks the camera case together so it does just rely on the advance knob.
