I really like the improvements VW has made to the new Tiguan. I'd just add a newer steering wheel since that's the first thing that catches the eye when you open the door. At least the real buttons are back. But Hyundai still does the best job in that area. I just hope they continue to increase the selection of interior colors and textures (lay to rest the piano black please) beyond the standard depressing monotone gray. Too bad this is not the same car that will be offered to the North American market. I really like it. I just hope whatever car does arrive they include an 'R" version this go-round. Especially if this is to be the last of the ICE vehicles. It should go out with a bang, like the Cadillac V cars did. Anyway, not offering the 'R' performance was always a restriction I found peculiar since they import the Golf R, yet its the Tiguan that is their best selling model. VW really needs to use this opportunity to stand out, since it will be facing some stiff competition from Toyota once the new RAV4 is released. I suspect buyer will be flocking to that car like moths to a flame. Not to mention new release from Hyundai/KIA such as the Santa Fe. At the moment, Hyundai is the only manufactures that offers a performance SUV in the affordable price point with the Kona R, even if it is a sub-compact. VW really needs to use this opportunity to boosts its reputation currently if it expects to become a serious competitor with its future EVs. Just being good enough isn't going to sway any buyers to that brand. Nobody buys German for reliability - or fuel economy. But the do buy if they expect them to be a lot more fun to drive. Right now, only the Golf siblings can do that.
