Going north there were not markers on the river bed but one doesn’t need them there. There was some four wheel drive track that could be followed for a ways on the creek bed. Through the forest one could see where to go. But dropping down from the tussock above forest track once off the well formed track from Royal Hut was not very clear or marked. Uwe had gone up it two days earlier so he had an idea where to go. I think it was marked where to enter the forest if going south. Are you going north or south there? I’d be curious to find out it went for you at this time of the year.

Just got back today from that section. What an adventure, forest creek was high but clear. Very swift river. And from there it was up to the snow that was 3/4 the way up to the saddle. Very steep too. From royal hut up to stag saddle was crazy, fog turned to snow as I got to the base of the up hill. No track to be seen just snow. Just an idea and sumtimes a marker in the distance, but could only see 100meters ahead. White out at the saddle, also no idea of a track to go just new I had to stay to the left to get to the point in the distance. As you can see I made it. Ta solo.
