G'Day, my name is Dave and my friends call me the 'Tree Change Farmer'.
After living most our lives in suburbia, myself and my wife Kim decided we needed a tree change.
We looked far and wide before deciding to purchase a small farm in the Hunter Valley of NSW in Australia. In 2018 we moved in and set upon a path towards being more self sufficient and looking at ways to bring in additional income from what we grow on the land we love. Travel with us on our journey as we grow vegetables, english lavender and wax flowers and take care of all the other tasks a small farm presents every day.

At first didn't think I would like the effect, but I'm coming around, looking forward to the Next video. Keep up the good work. Can't wait for the Mini Moke videos.👍
Great video mate thanks was interesting. I'm thinking of buying a Chinese tyre changer + Balancer as the tyre services are charging at least $40 each tyre. I have a Question where do you dispose of your used tyres and is it free of charge?
The seal gets hard because of high hydraulic temp. Get high-pressure viton seals. Sort out the high temp with a cooler. Do not stall the functions. It will dump oil over the relieve valve and create heat.
Thank you for the long video, they are the best, you have a great clear voice and the sound of compassion for others in how you explain the way you tackled the job.
Use a Reciprocating Saw with a demolition blade to separate the boards in the pallet.
If I can make a couple of recommendations. My shed is lined with yellow tongue flooring and insulated with floor insulation. Absolutely superb on hot days.
Cheap Chinese metal. That’s why it rusts.
What are the specs of your shed, height etc? Thanks
Shed is 14 metres long x 9 metres wide with a wall height of 3.3 metres. Not sure of the roof angle but it is 4.2 metres to the peak. Mezzanine kit was 6 metres x 4 metres. Cheers Dave
I would assume that the valves of the swing boom are not symmetrical. A manufacturing deviation. Valve dimensions are critical in terms of performance. I once worked on a servo control for a hydraulic elevator. We could not get good control in each direction (up & down) until we examined the control valves and found one that was VERY slightly out of spec.
Love Geraldton wax, how are your plants going?
I like the leash which i'm sure kills the motor vs hold er back.
clean the old carburettor and put that back on, the chinese copies are terrible. it needs the be sped up a tiny bit. get the blade balanced and sharpened. it will run another 10+ years. the older engines like that are built way better than the new rubbish
great video , you're very patient and great explanations.
Je veux acheter le UME 12p 2024 et merci pour vos vidéos que je regarde depuis quelques jours. Je sais à quoi m'attendre maintenant et j'irai probablement de l'avant cette semaine. Thamk you!
When assembling any part like this you should always use the same oil as a lubricant when putting things together. I keeps the seals from damage while being put on.
Why is the grass along the lavender rows dead?
I highly recommend that you become a "registered Retailer" of John Deere parts so that you can obtain your parts from your supplier, and fix the tractor CORRECTLY. Forget the fly by night shadetree mechanics in Sydney!
Hot wheels?
Never mentioned the price. Fail.
In the video description bud. $16990. WINNER!
Thanks, good to know the spinning drill trick only works on non-inverter generators. It turns out that I let the generator run for a while and it began working normally. Apparently, it needed to get up to speed for a little bit in order to generate power. I like your calm tone of confronting a problem. I'm a general contractor and can do a variety of things, but often I come upon something new. In those moments your calm and thoughtful approach is exactly what's needed.
How to fuel consuption?
Thanks for posting this video. I'm currently trying to get an 35 year old Makita G3501R generator working again. After cleaning the carburetor, it fired right up but did not produce any voltage. I appreciate your efforts in trying to track down the problem on your generator. Even though you have not succeeded so far, I'm encouraged by your attempt. I'll try the drill technique and see if that helps.
Thanks for watching Paul. I have found out since posting this video that the spinning drill manoeuvre only works on a non inverter generator. Cheers Dave
I have the UME12 bought 2 years ago and nothing but praise for the machine, the value and the support I've received from UHI, including a recent warranty claim that was dealt with with no fuss and full satisfaction.
nice work
Hi Dave, looking at buying the 12P I am on 20 acres with some slight hills does it go ok on hills,
I would not use them on hills. The motors when not going forward or back have no braking within and you can end up free wheeling down the hills. Only way is to have the bucket on the ground and slide it along as a sort of brake. Have a look at @howardkettner on youtube, as he has an example of free wheeling and how he solved the issue. Cheers Dave.
@@TreeChangeFarmer thanks are they a good reliable machine I have 2 x JD tractors so just want something to did holes drive in fence posts etc
Good job. I'm thinking you may want to purchase a few more of those seal kits, if one went bad more may go bad.
Trackta why can't you damn people find the letter R? Sickening accent.
You should have taken spidels off ,and take the bearings out to grease them. The rubber. on the bearings come out to grease the bearings. Putting grease in the bottom, doesn't grease the bearings. John Deere wants you to spend money not save it,and they don't tell you about doing it that way.
Alex is a machine.. A sales machine!
Hey man, thanks for that video. I have a similar engine its called ll385, looks the same. Just wondering what do you do with the coolant? When it arrived it only had some on the bigger reservoir but the smaller plastic one didnt have any. Should it have? Do you ever change the fuel filter? I will also change the hydraulic oil, I cant seem to see how to get all the oil out (besides the tank) and make sure it air free. Any tips on those. Thanks already! Cant wait to start using the machine.
On my machine there is small external to the radiator plastic reservoir. It has two lines on it an upper mark and a lower mark. I check when cold that the fluid is at the upper mark. The level will vary on the temp of the engine. Haven't changed the fuel filter as yet. I am thinking of putting a better spin on diesel filter system. The manual for my digger says to change the hydraulic oil at 2000 hours (which I haven't done as yet). Although I did also read somewhere it should be changed after 12 months but haven't done that (still looks clear). Don't worry about getting the air out. Just run the digger and cycle through each cylinder on the arm and the pick, run the travel motors forward and back and rotate the house. Any air will end up back in the tank and vent out. Cheers Dave.
Just inherited by dad's 2008 LA115 with only 138 hours (I'm wondering if hour meter is accurate.) I don't need the transmission rebuilt, but the mower deck and operator's platform both need a paint job. Your paint job looks great! Hoping I can reproduce your results.
Ive got a seal kit coming from UHI for my UME12, so I'll probably be doing this next weekend. Great video, now I know what to do, 👍👍👍
Might want to get a magnetic dipstick to catch tiny metal filings.
Never even overloaded it? That's a worry. Edit: interesting to learn that running it dry can stress the inverter. THank you for that tip.
How many hours does your typical outage last might you say? Having a battery+inverter (pre-made as a 'power station' eg Bluetti (make sure it has a lifepo4 battery for safety's sake)) handy to cover say 12 hour outages is handy. If you want to make your own you'll prob save ~$500-1000. Eg. $800 for a 100ah 24v lifepo4 battery, $450 for a 3500va inverter and say $200-300 for wire, fuse, isolator, lugs, heatshrink, tools, etc. In my experience, watching gumtree generator ads daily, you can find a modern inverter generator ~2kva for $200 (in WA) if you wait a month or three, or ~$300 if you want one sooner. I got a barely used 2kva kings for $200 ($~500 new as of today) compact generator (not the cubic open-frame type). It's a bit noisy but works fine. Edit: just watched your second video showing the 3kva ~$400 kings opted for.
There is a housing estate being built on the land next to us. Maybe twice a month for the last year the power goes off at 8am and comes on again at 5pm. If I am working in the sign shop the printer need about 2500 watts to run so would struggle with a back up battery system. The Kings generator does the job well so far. Still looking for a similar generator to the broken 'Gensafe' on marketplace so I can repair the original one. Cheers Dave.
@@TreeChangeFarmer curious to know: do you hear many other gennies running during outages?
@@jimmybrad156 The neighbour behind my place runs his. Most of the new places in the state are not lived in yet.
What was that fuel tank you were using at 17:20 ? Does it have a hand pump?
It was from UHI with a pump in the handle. Not all that easy to use and very slow. After about 6 months the pump part failed and now leaks. Cheers Dave.
@@TreeChangeFarmerthanks for letting me know. I'll avoid that option then.
That's not an oil leak, it's a rust protection system.
Great vid mate. I have the 1 tone version. About 1.5 years old now. They are rough and jerky but I found the lower revs definately work better. Go through less juice too. Beats using a shovel 😉
Yes I have found the lower revs work for me. In tougher material I still need to go higher but still happy with the performance after 2 years. Cheers Dave
Hi Dave, do you have any idea what the hydraulic filter part number is for a ume10? Much thanks in advance
I have a new one that came with my UME12. Not sure if it is the same but will see if it has any number on markings on it. Cheers Dave.
My dad bought a Chinese 3000w generator on 10-27-2012 two days after hurricane sandy hit long island. He bought it at home Depot. I has with him and I remember that generator he bought was the only one there that home Depot had. He got it for $412. I was searching online for the exact generator and I read a forum that they don't make them anymore they discontinued it on 9-15-2012 right before my dad got it. The brand is a CF powerLine and the model is a LT3000CL. It kind of looks like a King Canada PowerForce 3000 watt generator looks identical. I still have it running strong haven't had any problems besides The carburetor.👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you for watching and commenting. I guess time will tell on how my generator lasts. Still happy with my decision to buy it. Luckily they are easy to work on and parts supply is not a problem. Good luck with yours. Cheers Dave.
Can u ask if you bought the quick hitch right from UHI?
It came installed on the machine when purchased. It was part of the package that included the 9 implements. Not sure if they sell just the hitch by itself. The pins themselves are 25mm. If you get one, make sure the bolt is greased and just hand tight will keep the bucket on. If you use a rattle gun it can break the bolt. Cheers Dave.
Hi mate. Are you still happy with the 454? B & I are looking at getting one for the farm here. I'm off to Brissy today to suss them out. Cheers mate.
I am not sure if it came across in the video but I do not own that tractor. I have other UHI products which have been fine and I had the opportunity to use the UHI 454 tractor over 2 days on a friends property. I was impressed when using it and believe since filming that there have not been any issues. I regularly am in contact with the sales people at UHI and haven't heard of any warranty issues on these tractors. When you even mention chinese made products there will always be those that will put them down and make up stories of warranty problems when most of time it is the equipment not being operated correctly and not being serviced correctly. Cheers Dave.
@@TreeChangeFarmer Thanks for that Dave, I tend to skip in a bit from introductions so missed that. We checked them out at their Brissy site on Friday & are definitely interest in getting one now. Cheers mate.
Hello. Please need expert's suggestions/advice. We hired a contractor for a mezzanine floor for our shop and our contractor by mistake/intentionally fixed 50mm PU sandwich panel on floor and finished concrete over it. We have mixed opinion about using sandwich panel as a floor. Our shop is going to open soon and our contractor is still very sure about it because he said sandwich panel has very good load bearing capacity. We are very confused and we do not have a time for re-work. Can anybody suggest me what to do in that case. Thank you
How thick is the concrete? Rebar? And what is the span, etc.
Concrete is 4cm thick. Span is 1.5m with 100x200 beam and inside is around 1sqm with tube support of 50x100
The concrete will delaminate from the sandwich panel. He had to to use the right steeldeck.
Good informative video, keep up the good work.👍
Thank you for posting this. Have the same issue on mine and was psyching myself up to do it as I wasn’t sure what to expect but you have shown it’s simple! Legend!
It took me some time because I was trying to video the process, but it is not that hard. Just keep everything CLEAN! I was thinking the oil would come out when the cover was removed, but being elevated on that side and the pump not running it wasn't an issue. Cheers Dave.
@@TreeChangeFarmer Well managed to get some time to do it yesterday and all went without a hitch! That method you showed on how to remount the track also worked very well - first time! Once again - thanks!
You really get surprised at which places they save money in their designs. I have a small 50hp tractor from china and you also have to refill the engine oil through a breather on top of the valve train...
When I looked at the newer models, they have added a proper filling point for the hydraulic oil. Cheers Dave
Yeah it’s a common issue. Easy to fix. Hardest part is getting the track on and off. Make sure you get the right seal kit for it and don’t listen to the video on KZread who uses a automotive seal , the seal will fit but it will fail in no time
When I took the old seal out it was hard and came apart. I thought the hardness may be because it was under pressure from the hydraulic pump but since have read that within the drive motor there is little pressure. Cheers Dave.
Ey this video really helped! I got these for work as I'm a young apprentice tradie! Thank you very much for your help! Great review
Mine still works fine but I do notice when working in a high noise environment that there seems to be not enough level in the headsets. Some have commented on the quality of the sound but I cant tell the difference, but do find at times the level of audio could be greater. Cheers Dave.
I'd like to know if it turns into a bucket of shit after 3 years.
Good morning from the US. I have a Renogy RBM500 battery monitor and have hooked it up according to the instructions and the same as you have done with the shunt and negative wire from the battery to the shunt etc. I have a EPOCH 36 Volt 100 AH lithium battery in a EZGO 36 Volt golf cart. When I power the battery on via the on/off power push button, it beeps and shuts down. When I disconnect the shunt and take it out of the system the battery powers up and the cart drives fine but I do not have the Renogy Monitor to use. It is very perplexing. I called Renogy but did not really geet a answer to my question. Any insight or assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, great video.......
The only thing different I notice to my set up is that I do not have a power on button on the battery. My batteries are the 3 x 12 volt connected in series that are are always powered (on). I have the original key on the dash which I use. It sounds like when you power on it surges the shunt. The shunt I think can act like a resistor to the circuit and maybe the battery thinks there is a 'short' somewhere and shuts down. The shunt uses a very low trickle current to run the signal to the monitor but not enough to drain the battery. Can you leave your battery in the 'on' mode and still turn the key off? Cheers Dave.
