Wouldn't it be a better world if the youth of today took so much pride in understanding how the world works and actually did something proactive. Or at least took an interest in history and politics.

I’m an American who’s aware of British subculture during those times it was a real treat to see lesser known bands, such as The Questions (who came off very XTC) and Dolly Mixture deliver a brilliant live performance but most of all, ‘Funeral Pyre” was even more incendiary live than on vinyl. This puts me smack dab in the middle of it all! I appreciate the thoughtful considerations of emerging youth of the times and was impressed to hear the perspectives from both sides of the economic field. Overall, this is an incredible journal of early 1980s Britain and wow, how young for everyone to be so wise! Hats off to whoever put this together.

I was in last year of school in 1980 & this movie had as bigger impact on my generation as punk had upon those 5 years older . one of the cooler lads in my year had bought every black sabbath album & had long hair but on realising more & more Girls really dug the new mod thing immediately cut his hair ,got the fishtail parka , the suit & turned up to youth club on a make do scooter & denied ever loving any heavy metal …..& soon got a cool girl with a pixie cut to match. Hello Bod. 😁

Betj calls the chatelaine of Sissinghurst 'Lady Nicolson'. This is a tease. She always insisted on being known by her maiden name as V. (for Vita) Sackville-West. She and her husband, Sir Harold Nicolson, disliked his surname, which they thought 'bedint', i.e. common. The Sackvilles of Knole, OTOH, were an old Kentish aristocratic family. 'Hadji' Nicolson plotted fruitlessly to become a peer and had already chosen his title, Lord Cranfield, reviving a former name in his family tree. But all he got was a lousy knighthood, for writing a rather dull life of George V, so he had to keep his vulgar surname.
