    The F-105 is supposed to be fast as a bat out out of hell on the deck. My dad was an airline pilot who flew with some guys that had flown F-4s in the Air Force. He said they said they'd fly F-4s to escort F-105s, and once the F-105s dropped their bombs they'd light the afterburner and just leave them in their dust.

    I haven't upgraded to 4.35 yet, although I really enjoy playing "for real" once my controls are dialed in. In real life, your first flights aren't combat, but navigational. You just don't take off and land at any arbitrary airport, so I write down and study all the important airport and wind information and procedures before I take off. With 4.35, supposedly, there's flippable kneeboards to help with that. Just adds to the immersion until I run into some glitch!

    The newer ED planes in DCS seem to have a way better tire model than BMS, or older DCS planes. Seem to have at least a rudimentary rolling resistance, slip angle and maybe load curve simulation. BMS and many older non-ED DCS planes are just glued to the ground. DCS probably has decent camber curves too, because the plane can actually tip over, which is realistic I've heard. Track and wheelbase are both really small in the F-16. I'm pretty sure the landing gear suspension simulation and tire spring + damping simulation is better in the good DCS planes, hence easier landings. Harder isn't always more realistic; at this kind of simulation accuracy, usually the challenge is having sim tires/aero be as easy to handle as IRL! Need to use all kinds of tricks like more communicative force feedback, sounds or visual cues than you would get IRL, to account for lack of G's, inner ear etc. On top of that everybody has some kind of idea that hard = realistic, so that cancerous idea has plagued the sim industry (and consumers who expect such behavior) for decades. One example is missile performance; it's decently known by now that air to air and surface to air missiles have a somewhat lower hit chance IRL than in sims; yet everybody rags on DCS when their SAMs aren't "deadly" enough and points to BMS' more lethal SAMs (Is it like that nowadays? My info is outdated; coming back to it lately myself too) as proof of BMS being superior and DCS being arcade; but as someone who devs for simulation, I would really guess that DCS missiles are still maybe even in excess of 10% too accurate, in ideal conditions. Who knows how bad it should be in un-ideal conditions. One thing that comes to mind is the 1:27 (?) hit chance for R-27R's in the Eritrea - Ethiopia war. Almost like medium range missiles aren't some kind of silver bullet that will hit a maneuvering target every time, yet that they are especially in older sims with less accurate aero and guidance. BMS plane not being able to tip over is concerning if it had something to do with the CoG, but I'm pretty sure it's just a bad camber curve, tire springrate, whatever it is. In car sims if you have too little grip with high camber, the tires will just slide and not produce enough force to get the car on two wheels or tip over. Probably something similar in most flightsim tires. That + way too much grip I would guess. I like them both and I will stick with BMS purely for its campaign generation possibilities, but you need to give DCS credit where it is due.

  • @grizzly4736
    @grizzly47363 жыл бұрын

    Oh don't get me wrong, I am not ragging on DCS at all. For me it's not one VS the other. I love them both mostly because I love the Viper. With that said, I am just pointing out differences. BMS is the more complete model for the Viper with weapons suite and avionics while DCS is visually amazing with more accurate flight dynamics and "feel" when flying.

  • @ArchOfficial
    @ArchOfficial3 жыл бұрын

    @@grizzly4736 Not sure if the flight dynamics are more accurate definitely, haven't seen the data, but it definitely has more FLCS implementation that should be there, and is not in BMS. I'm going to guess they also have some actual flight parameter data and probably did their own CFD as well so I would guess that the flight dynamics are indeed more accurate. Might not be by a massive amount to be honest if F-16 flight parameter data is public but I don't know if that is the case. Some people swear that BMS is more accurate still, but until I see the data... No idea about feel. Even good test pilots can't really comment on that very much to be honest. To me DCS feels the best out of all the combat sims but it can also be simply due to how the head moves around (or mostly lack of it which I like), the sounds, the visual shake effects etc. DCS likely would feel better even with 1:1 identical flight dynamics to BMS. Hence why commenting on feel is so difficult! You'd need a 1:1 replica force sensitive sidestick hooked up to a rig that can handle the forces, to even begin the comparison. Personally I'm really excited by the fact that ED is not that limited by the engine as BMS is. It will only get significantly better in the next few years as the engine improves and the plane modules can be used more realistically and in more compelling scenarios. Right now BMS still wins in that regard by a long shot; and this is taking Liberation into account. One thing DCS will never best Falcon in, is the overall feeling of the menus, intro videos, background music etc. Has that special late 90's feeling to it that is unlikely to be replicated no matter how good the sim or plane is. Just because of that I'm sure Falcon will live essentially forever to some capacity.

    Hard to imagine those puny tires having enough traction and rigidity to flip many tons of jet plane. Stranger things have happened tho.

  • @ArchOfficial
    @ArchOfficial3 жыл бұрын

    @@gb7418 They don't need much, it happens because the CG is so far above the contact patch and the track is so narrow compared to the wheelbase. They tip off one wheel and then usually contact the ground with the rest of the plane. I don't think it'd be doable if the track was much wider, but you gotta remember single fuselage planes like the F-16 are very narrow.
