Geddy said John had agreed to write the lyrics for the first album but at the last minute he bailed on it and Ged and Alex had to write the lyrics in just a few days. In the 70's alot of rock lyrics were young love focused. There is video of them preforming in 1974, look for 'Rush Laura Secord Secondary School, 1974, St Catharines, Ontario'.

What a cool idea! There is a live performance of Rush doing Finding my way on Don Kirchner's rock concert. Also, a live performance of Caravan from the Time Machine Tour live in Cleveland which is a banger! I do think Alex Lifeson is a guitar God! He may not be as flashy as some but there is a subtle complexity to his guitar playing that added to the fullness of their sound. There was a true equality where each of them all brilliant musicians got to shine. Geddy's voice got deeper with the years but I think his voice still sounds great here. I just saw a clip of Alex and Geddy playing with Blue Rodeo another excellent Canadian band in a tribute concert for Gordon Lightfoot who was a iconic Canadian singer songwriter who just passed last year and Geddy still sounded really good. He didn't sound like he did in 1974 but that is to be expected. Cheers

This is my essay to people who may not know RUSH or who Neil was professionally and his contributions to the art of drumming and lyrical writing! Enjoy! RUSH is THE PERFECT EXAMPLE of the fluidity of MASTERING TIME SIGNATURES! I play drums and there are a few things that you need to know about Neil Peart’s ( pronounced PEER-T) character: First he writes the lyrics so he knows in advance what TYPE of song it’s meant to be ie ballad, driver, etc. Second he COMPOSES on the drums… like a carpenter who looks at a set of blueprints before building the object. Neil lays out a SKETCH in his mind of the VOICES of the drumset and builds the song from there. He is also a great LISTENER knowing when NOT to step over Geddy’s singing or Alex’s solos! Finally, he had perfect timing and fluidity of time changes. He said himself that it’s not about COUNTING the time signatures as much as fluid motion to change the tempo without counting: in other words it should FLOW! He hates repeating the same drum patterns in the same song meaning if he plays a fill one way the first time around he will play it differently the second time around. IE. Rolls down the toms the first time around and triplets or quads (all four limbs) the second time around. In short there will NEVER be another like him on planet earth 🌍 🌏 🌎! REST IN PEACE PROFESSOR! With heart felt admiration and sincerity! Gary

The circle of life and Tuomas recycled into a tree. Tuomas of course wanted to be a marine biologist and Floor a biologist Both have insects named after them and Nightwish are official ambassadors for the World Land Trust, with a nature reserve in Mexico named after them. The low mix for Floor in the chorus is deliberate. Tuomas is using Floor as another instrument Those who think Nightwish are essentially the lead vocalist may not like that, but it shows that Tuomas is not bound by such thinking

Neil’s drum kits were always custom made by the company he sponsored, at their expense, for every tour. He had sets with custom inlays on each tom that had emblems from each of their albums. For the Time Machine tour, every cymbals had gear teeth silk screened on them so it looked steam punk from the overhead camera. Every cymbal stand had a pressure gauge made into each boom block. It was a tiny detail that probably no one sees, but that’s just Rush. Every drum company competes for Neil to sponsor their sets. That is why they custom make his drum set to his specifications. The same is true with Alex and Geddy. Many of their newer guitars were gifted to them by the guitar companies. Once you reach such legendary status in music, you will never pay for equipment again. The poorer drummers pay for it many times over when they buy the drum set that Neil plays. Geddy and Alex both have signature basses and guitars made to their specifications. Alex also has amplifiers made for him. He owns his own brand called Lerxst, which is a nickname the bandmates gave him, something they all have. Neil is “Pratt” and Geddy is “Dirk”. Those are the names that they call each other. When you’re the best in the world at what you do, you have sponsors throwing money your way all the time.

Been a while since I heard that band name, have to check them out. When the nerds listen to Nightwish I learn things. For example one reactor was a marine biologist who was able to identify and discuss the whale species in the video, and even the species and characteristics of the whale skeleton they added with the diver. Others looked up the greek and obscure English words used in the lyrics, as well as the origin of the mechanical owl with the head rotating counterclockwise.

And Floor Jansen is arguably the greatest female vocalist ever. She definitely lives up to her reputation of "Queen Valkyrie Metal Goddess".

Thanks for checking out Polyphia, the whole band is nuts, from the Clays (drummer and bassist) to Tim and Scott (lead guitarists) they are all world class. For your next video you should check out Playing God (official video) and then after perhaps in the same video watch Playing God Unplugged, with Tim playing just by himself. The camera is focused on his hands the entire time. The guy is like on level 10000 on his instrument, he makes it look so easy...he is so in the flow state. Its so incredible. Tim is without question one of the most influential virtuoso guitarists of this generation and will go down as one of the greats of all time. He's already know for his unique sound and monster skills on guitar. But I think its his unique composing style that has already been called out by Steve Vai and Joe Satriani that will be remembered. He's like the Paganini of guitar not using a single technique but mixing them like colors that he can use to paint his creations. He's not held back by convention. His mind, they way he approaches composition is just different. Just watch any of his making of videos. Its really interesting. Keep reacting, check out the rest of Polyphia's catalog, so much music...so many styles....remember if something doesn't float your boat....try something else....they are always experimenting. Playing God is from there most recent album, but I would also suggest you check out O.D, Chimera(Playthrough), Neurotica (Band Playthrough), Ego Death (fea. Steve Vai), The Audacity. Tim has also said he is working on a solo album so keep an eye out for that!!!
