Movies do more than entertain. Movies affect us and move us deep down. They take us to another place, awaken something inside, and return us breathless to our seats. The filmmakers themselves may not fully understand what they have tapped into - It just felt right for the story - for the editing. It was a story that needed to be told.
There are many ways to interpret a movie. Here we attempt to dive deep into the themes and symbols - to try to understand why it resonates, to find the pearl at the center, the takeaway, the moral of this story.
My goal is to help people better understand themselves by helping them understand the movies and shows that resonate with them.

It's one of my favorites👋
AND STAY OUT OF THE WOOLWORTHS!!!🙏🇺🇲❤️👍
An awesome movie.
Wow I thought I was the only one yes 4
Ross Barnett reservoir , Hinds /Rankin County , Preal River Mississippi. 🇺🇲👍
Cow standing on the highest spot during a flood is very logical.😊
You have an amazing gift to be able to interpret what you see in movies and I assume your life in general, into such beautiful meaning and purpose. I have the ability to deeply analyze and question what I see but I was not blessed with being able to derive any useful conclusions from my questioning. I'm glad to see that somebody has honed this skill into something akin to a consolation to life. It gives me hope and I pray that it serves you well while you continue on your journey through life.
Beautifully analyzed. Probably my favorite movie ever. Best part is when you ended it with " and stay out of the Wollsworth!'
I’m 57 years old and have watched this movie a hundred times and is easily my favorite movie in my younger years I was a hard core metal music lover and after watching this the first time it sparked my interest in blues and bluegrass music and an easier time in life . Now I yearn for this life (1920’s) and this music . I know they had hardships but as compared with today society I would choose no air conditioning or electricity lol🤷🏻♂️
That’s very cool. Now that you mention it, I appreciate bluegrass and ‘old timey’ music much more because of this movie as well. The power of a good film.
@@MoralofthisStory in deed . Heck I’m listening to Ralph Stanley . Fortunately that music is making a comeback in certain circles. Steel Drivers which use to have Chris Stapleton as their singer but still do righteous music and a song by Tyler Childers called banded Clovis .. I’ve been searching that genre for a couple years now. I’ve even gotten into the religious bluegrass too . . Thanks for responding and showing appreciation for the old timey music. Needs to be more of it in today’s world
Great delve into a classic.
These Coen boys are purely genius - sometimes on the edge of sanity and propriety, but genius nevertheless. Brings to mind one Buster Scruggs🤔🤠
The runt from Reata Pass?
These videos are a wonderful examination. What I found strange was that watching this film made me realize how little an arc Bruce himself ever seemed to have in any prior live film incarnation. The Keaton films, his arc is basically “I might like a girl. But mostly I’m Batman.” Otherwise, nothing about him changes. The Kilmer interpretation did have an interesting arc in the initial screenplay, but the chopped down version equates to “I have a girlfriend so I’m no longer Batman. Wait. I guess I’m Batman again.” The Clooney film’s story is the equivalent of throwing toys at each other and making explodey sounds. And even the Nolan films with Christian Bale, which I find great, have a very bare minimum arc for Bruce himself. They’re all about him, but he’s more or less the same person form the first time you see him. In The Batman, both his unearthing and addressing aspects of his trauma that he hadn’t consciously dealt with prior, conveyed in the conversation with Alfred in the hospital, and the following evolution from someone fueled by this anger to someone who realizes it is better to give people hope, as he perhaps has some for the first time in his life himself, is such a simple and yet previously unexplored element of telling a story with one of the most famous fictional entities of all time.
Very interesting. I agree. This movie, more than the others, is trying not only to entertain, but to elicit change.
Recapping the movie.
Yet another Hollywood lie, they don't want you to know salvation comes only from Christ
I actually see this as a pro-Christ movie. Both Andy and the warden seem to know their scriptures, but the warden shows how they can be twisted and used for selfish and controlling purposes. To me, he can be seen as representing the devil. Whereas Andy, who is subject to the warden’s tantrums and abuse, tries to help the other prisoners see that there is life and hope beyond the warden. He, with his arms outstretched in the rain, after passing through the sewage pipe, is a symbol of Christ, who passed through death and emerged victorious. 🤷♂️ Just my thoughts.
The scene where Tommy is rescued from the KKK by Everett, Pete, and Delmar has always reminded me of Dorothy’s rescue from the Witch’s castle in The Wizard of Oz.
Yes, me too. I believe that is intentional. The chanting/singing and marching appears to be lifted from the WofOz.
I think that current year has finally given me the brainworms. "Robert Johnson" My brain: "you mean Ro-Jo?"
Haha!
Bible sales!!!! Making money of the ignorant. Just like Trump.
I always thought that this is a modern version of Homer's Odyssey. (The girls washing clothes and singing in the river - song of the siren. John Goodman's cyclops. Everett trying to find his way back to his wife. Three examples but there were others that I cannot recall (from Homer) right now.) One of my favorite movies.
Good analysis, thank you. 🙏🏼
mykOhyn
Saw this in the theater in 02. I knew about the Odyssey, references, but wow the rest went over my head. Also I have been borrowing the phrase "DUMBER THAN A BAG OF HAMMERS" ever since.
Me too 🤣
Considering my southern heritage i would consider watching this film yes i was born in Florida it used to be a klan ruled state
Is the title clickbait? Because you don’t seem that bothered. Loved the great analysis and I enjoy the videos you make.
It’s not intentionally clickbait. 😄 I just think the wires that are supposed to make my face expressive are faulty. 😂 It’s useful for deadpan comedy, but not much else. I’m glad you enjoy the videos.
You have inspired me to re-watch the movie - thank you!
Well done
Thank you
The way you narrate is soooo good. I just finished watching the movie and came here directly, I'm so glad I watched your video. Got my mind blown💯.
Wow. Thank you for the kind words! I’m glad you liked it.
Thanks for wrapping it up. It's always felt unfinished.
Groundhog Day is Dead Poets Society from a different perspective. Essentially, they talk about the same thing. But if you go further to explore why change is so difficult, you need to master Gurdjieff's teachings.
Oh Captain my captain is a poem about a captain who leads his men to victory but dies on the way home. A fitting metaphor for the story, as it is for Robin Williams life.
This movie was perfectly casted. The music was perfect too.
The crossroads devil is derived from the crossroads god in voodoo and West African paganism, Papa Legba/Elegua/Eshu. Like Hermes he is a god of communication, the first god that must be invoked during voodoo rituals in order to communicate with the other gods. Like Loki, he is a trickster god, playing tricks on people to either edify or destroy them.
My favorite Coen movie and one of my all time favorite movies.
So whats in the packet?
I made a second video where I actually open the box and show what is inside. You might like it.
(04:45) _“The title of the film comes from a ceremony -- A secret club which [Keating] helped initiate when he was a student of the school.“_ Many will remember the sequence of the Latin lesson in the movie _The Life of Brian,_ but few are aware that John Cleese wrote it based on his experience of learning Latin at a preparatory school -- a class that he later became a teacher of, many years later after he had graduated there. _Carpe diem._
Interesting
Imo, this version of Gotham seemed the most fleshed out and realistic. It's probably the biggest reason I re-watch it.
I always loved going to Woolworth's and later Woolco as a child.
Then I had a vision Then I had religion I could not turn from a revel in division Then I saw the Congo creeping through the black Cutting through the forest with a golden track Then I saw the Congo creeping through the black Cutting through the forest with a golden track Then I saw the Congo creeping through the black Cutting through the forest with a golden track
I totally joined in as I read this.😂
Your 2 are dumb as a bag of hammers! 🤣🤣🤣
It’s interesting how you interpreted his uncle. Holding a newborn upside and swinging is really a life saving measure in cases for a baby draws first breath while still in amniotic fluid. So although the body shape is a story, the action was totally logical, which adds another level to what you say about Pi’s story telling. As well as adding to the theme of the mouth, water and drowning.
Colter Wall " the devil wears a suit and tie".
The island part spoiled the book. It was pretty good up until that point, plausible, despite the craziness of the situation, and with some beautiful writing, especially the stuff about sloths early on. One problem though with stranded-at-sea pieces is; to convey the boredom, the monotony, of day after day on an ocean, means, inevitably, to BE boring, to be monotonous, for parts of the novel, otherwise you don't convey this. So, as a result of the writer doing well in conveying this, he was, well, boring, for a big part of the novel.
The background noise is louder than the narrator This might have been a good video
I agree. I wish KZread would let you edit a video that you posted years ago to fix things like that. I could repost a re-mixed version, but I would lose all of the views and links to it.
It's possibly my favorite movie ever.
Many scenes filmed in Central Western MS near Vicksburg,
Thank you.
As an aspiring filmmaker, this video opens my eyes to new ways of storytelling through one of my favorite movies! Keep it up!
Awesome, thank you!
Fascinating 😅😇☝️❤️
Great video... you should do one on The Fisher King... probably my favorite Robin Williams movie.
Beautiful
