    Sometimes the Magic Works....This book single handedly killed my asportation to become a writer. It's actually pretty good. until he basically tells you wont achieve anything unless your entire life is writing. I was around 18 at the time. but after i read it, I just stopped writing altogether.

    Thank you for sharing María's interview. It's really interesting. I belong to Canguro Academy, an English academy where we are reading "Love in English" in our book club as our February reading. I am particularly moved by the book as an English student. If you contact María E. Andreu, please congratulate her on behalf of all the members of the Canguro Academy book club. Btw, congrats for the podcast. Thanks🙋‍♂️

    The original 1977 D&D 1E Monster Manual spoke in vague terms like "it is believed" or "rumor has it" about drow, while qualifying that nobody living had actually experienced a drow meeting in 1E. After that, the lore really only ever said that the 10-15 drow that PCs met at a time on particular campaigns were evil, without speaking about the race/species as a whole. Many people filled in that blank. Some refrained, though. They praised the first drow modules, but they asked for more details about where those isolated drow patrol groups ended. They knew that the monster manual and the modules were not the end-all, be-all. The publisher, TSR, responded by saying that they already had a full schedule of other modules lined up and none of those focused on drow again, so inquirers would need to be patient. But it doesn't seem that they were patient. Most assumed the existing lore said it all. Some of those who didn't made up their own lore by playing it out in their home campaigns. And then in 1985, the Unearthed Arcana reference book came out and said that gamers could indeed play drow if they wanted, and they were not limited to evil moral alignments, either. Canon said that drow could be good or neutral, too! And then in 1987, Bob Salvatore took that blurb and began exploring the hell out of it in the Forgotten Realms setting, with what is now called "The Legend of Drizzt". People who have rejected his recent additions to drow lore just haven't been paying attention ever since 1987--or '77. Bob has said elsewhere that he regrets that the D&D overlords didn't do enough to clarify all of this from the beginning, because some nasty accusations about racial prejudices and stereotypes have been lodged at D&D over the drow and other types of fantasy lifeforms in the IP, largely due to the prevailing assumption that essentially all drow are bad. That assumption was allowed to linger for decades. He undermined it in his books, sure, but the notion was not officially, definitively, overwhelmingly put to rest. However, I believe the truth was already hinted at with the mystical "rumor has it" lingo in the very beginning, and then blazingly broadcasted with the UA blurb a few years later. So the fact that many people nevertheless persisted with their false assumption is not the fault of D&D or Salvatore. That's on those other guys.

    I read Marc Cameron's book, Tom Clancy Power and Empire. I loved it! I especially loved how John Clark was portrayed in the book, as well as the mastermind villain. My only complaints was that the story meandered a bit in some places and the ending and finale was... rushed. I don't know, it seemed that Marc didn't have enough time to finish his story properly. Still, I enjoyed the book. An instant page-turner for me.

    MS Word - versatile, useful, industry-standard Scrivener - niche software I think I will go with MS Word then because MS Word can do just about anything, and that almost everybody is using it. Scrivener... not so much. Might as well just use Word for everything, even using it like Scrivener. :D :D :D

    Evidently I am one of those fans that take offense at cliffhangers, I believe I left a very hateful review at the end of "Valkyrie" and I probably did a refund on my audiobook purchase. I have bought all of the books in the series, it's been a year I think, still haven't listened to the last two books in the series, yet. I am wholeheartedly a huge fan of "The Ascendant" trilogy and liked the main character so much that I have listened to the series 4 times. I would love Alanson adding more to the series. Maybe I should go look up that "Valkyrie" review? 🤔

  • @mikefeddersen2476
    @mikefeddersen247611 ай бұрын

    P.S. an author really should be able to write any way they want, and if they want to leave you with an impossible cliffhanger, that's there choice. I think it's pretty ballsy, I would think they leave themselves open for fan's to not continue the series. Maybe there could be a spoiler note right before it happens, "Notice* Author is going to take a dump on the main character, you may want to pause here until the next book in the series is out." (The reason I hadn't finished the series was one of the fans in the Craig Alanson group on Facebook mentioned if I hated the cliffhanger at the end of"Valkyrie", I was really going to hate the next book's ending. So I stopped listening, and waited for the final two books to come out. )

    I randomly found the After it happened series on audiobook. It’s been a long time since I have found a series as interesting. After about 12 hours of listening I realized what I like about it is that its not “woke” it’s just an interesting story with characters that could actually exist.
