  You could have your chat open on another device like your phone, or you could play in windowed mode by pressing alt+enter. I personally do the former of those two.

  Yes, through trial and error over the game's speedrunning history it's been determined that this path is the fastest. I'm not sure what you mean by "the pens," but there is no RNG manipulation involved in this run. Every possible RNG factor in this run, with the exception of the water pipes, is kept constant by using a save file.

  @@plankboii with the pens in spyfox's pocket. i more so meant the scene as youre falling from the plane right before you land on acidophlyus. Does the order in which they are picked determine a path or is the path predetermined . So if the go fish path, is sub optimal, and say you were to start a fresh install of the game, would the game always start you on that path, would that essentially mean youd have to play the sub optimal route in order to even be able to go for the optimal one or would there be some determinant factor that decides which route the player takes? Thats more the question i was trying to go for .

  ⁠​⁠​⁠​⁠​⁠​⁠@@ryanlajeunesse7931you can create your own save file at the start of the game using the debug console. Every HE game has a "path select room" that can be accessed using the debug console, and it allows you to select any possible path to beat the game. Speedrunners have been using this since 2013-2014 to beat HE games as fast as possible. The paths the game can take you on are random and it will differ every time you relaunch the game. I don't know much about the pens because frankly they're not interacted with at all in the speedrun since the save file is made upon landing on the island. They may or may not have an impact on the path of the game, but for speedrunners it doesn't really matter since we are going to manipulate the path upon landing and make a save file to play the same optimal path every run. Basically, I don't have a good answer to your question simply because I have only speedran the game, which doesn't require interacting with the pens at all. The HE discord server has some members that would certainly be able to answer your question more effectively since they have much more knowledge of the games. discord.gg/vm43yZvVrj

  the escape key is a built in keybind for skipping cutscenes. The period key can be used to skip single dialogue lines, but it isn't used in this run
