Saving money for my next sailing/adventure.
I'm Italian, but I live in Manchester UK where I work as software/hardware developer.
Sailing has always been a passion since I tried some dinghies when I was teenager.
In June 2017 I bought an Albin Vega 27 sailing boat in Scotland and after some work I relocated her in Wales.

Buongiorno Andrea, ho visto che l'armatore Enrico ha messo in vendita la barca. E' possibile avere il contatto di Enrico per il possibile acquisto senza intermediario? Grazie
Certo, c'è un modo per contattarla in privato?
When docking, anchoring or even picking up and mooring any boat, you have to allow for the wind and tide especially when you are in an marina. Gerard.
Hi, I work on the show Saving Lives at Sea. We're interested in using some of you drone footage in our upcoming series, would you be happy for us to use? Thanks!
Hi, that should be fine. Which drone footage specifically? Can we discuss in private?
@@andreafabi4135 Hi, you can find my contact details on my about page, I can then give you some more info, thanks!
@@andreafabi4135 Hey, you can find my contact details in my about page if you want more info :)
Hi, I work on the show Saving Lives at Sea. We're interested in using some clips from your video, specifically the shots from the boat looking out to sea. Would you be happy for us to use? Thanks!
Please go ahead, is it possible to credit the footage?

It was lovely watching your passage and hearing your commentary. I particularly enjoyed the ghost story. I hope you don't mind if I adopt it as I enjoy telling a good story. And I am the owner of a Morcambe Bay prawner, Strumpet, one of the GRP hulls taken from the mold of the William Priestly. I go back in the water in 12 days. Cheers.
Vang the gaff....
hey Andrea, do you know what the blue lines that come from the shrouds & go to the aft do?
I think you are referring to the running backstays which are used to support the mast. Funny enough I've seen them in ultramodern racing boats as well as in very old gaffers (see my other video)

On all vessels you don’t do shifts, you do watches!!!! You don’t go down stairs, you go below.!!! Great video. More adventures please. Capt John.
Thanks! My English is still in progress and I'm learning a lot by making these videos, because I can refine the accuracy of the terminology I use. Also, it might be useful to others who are in my same position..
Awesome, just awesome.
Thanks !
No dead reckoning! Lazy and set for trouble later!!
Since completing my day skipper some 10 years ago, I haven't seen many sailors using dead reckoning. I occasionally do it for enjoyment, like when I navigated a couple of legs between Croatia's isles last year without gps. But dead reckoning now is somewhat of a lost art. Most sailors rely on modern technology for accuracy and convenience.
A lovely video, very well edited and excellent choice of music, AND what a lovely lovely boat. In my 20's I used to sail on a Falmouth quay Punt called Piskie and also on a Bristol Channel Pilot cutter, Marguerite T. Happy days.
Thanks a lot! I'd love to sail a Bristol Channel Pilot cutter one day!
BRAVISSIMI! Bel video, me lo sono gustato!!!😂
I'm so pleased to see Laura in good hands. I knew her well in the late 90's when Gale Heard used to win all the Old Gaffers races on the East Coast in Essex , Suffolk and Kent. My old 1870 Emma of Bosham (I still have her) was fast but not as fast as Laura. Fair winds.
Mike was telling us about a special green sail...
Great video, Lovely boat, and yes more stories please.
More to come!
Classic lines and perfect video of her in her element. There is no need for music just record the natural sounds of the sea and wind.
Wonderful Andrea. Thank you. Gary in japan
Thank you for showing us this gorgeous boat. We see them but we don't see them functioning. Fantastic.
Glad you enjoyed it!! It was the. first time for me as well on a classic boat.... it was a great experience!
FYI, subtitles are in Italian.
Thanks for pointing that out! I think you should be able to change the setting of the subs to English. I need to check how to change it so that the English subs are the default.
Circa 1974 I owned and worked May Baxter FD82. Probably one of the last blokes alive that worked a prawner out of Jubilee Quay, Fleetwood.
How was it? I guess hard work when the weather wasn't great?
It had its ups and downs, but overall it was good. My only regret now, is that I was too young to appreciate that I was actually partaking in living history.@@andreafabi4135
🌬⛵️🤗👍
Great video Andrea, you’ve got the touch! 😀 This is a brilliant crew advert for Laura. We are planning to sail to Isle of Man this year maybe we can make the sequel. Best wishes, Mike
Sure Mike I'd love to... Is it just Laura or other boats as well?
Great video Andrea, I certainly enjoyed sailing her back to Bangor. Hope to meet up with you again.
Hope we can sail more on her!
Thank you Andrea, for a great film about your voyage
I'm glad you liked it!! 😀 Thank you!

🔝 bravo!!🙌
Bellissimo! Bravo Andrea!
Thanks for sharing! Great adventure, my first boat was also an Albin Vega purchased in 2017 but moored on the Baltic! The Pogo 30 is a dream boat , I would love to be the proud owner of that boat!
They are both remarkable boats, but very different. The Vega is very affordable and capable boat with a rather "classic" design, while the Pogo is a fast, sleek and quite expensive modern yacht. There are advantages and disadvantages in both designs. I was particularly impressed with the Pogo's surprisingly spacious interior for her size. Alas, as much as I admire it, the Pogo remains a dream for now, beyond my reach. However, having the opportunity to crew on my friend's Pogo was an unforgettable experience I'm incredibly grateful for!
Inviting you onboard means a wonderful video of the holiday! Congratulations from a Pogo 30 owner too, and from what I’ve heard your friend is Italian as I am! Take care 😊
Ciao Giuseppe, sono anche io italiano, living in UK! The Pogo 30 is a great boat, had a lot of fun on her! Stay tuned cause I'm going to upload the Biscay Bay crossing on this Pogo soon.... Se ti serve un video in cambio di un po' di vela fammi sapere :D
Magnifique!
Beautiful too see this movie the albin is a good sailing vessel. I have buy an old one to restore it again kzread.info/dash/bejne/lnutpNRtkdfYk5c.htmlsi=5CKTHLAI-XGJeUtS
The trick is to show that you did it on purpose 😂😂😂 Vega they have their own personalities! Just go with the flow😎
Haha 😂
Beautiful episode and music 🎶 forever. Greetings from beautiful Hawaii islands ⛵️
I ran my Vega straight into the dock because of a slight wind. Not enough to sail, but enough to not allow me to turn. I guess I'll keep practising
Keep practicing! Under sail speed is the only thing that counts if you want to steer... Maybe you could have turned the other way around and jibe?
something i don't understand: why is the vega especially difficult in reverse? any boat steers bad in reverse if not fast enough. the problem with the vega is that you can't power-turn forward, because the rudder is not in the propwash. so why and in what way is reverse difficult? thanks for clarifying! im renting a vega this summer for a holiday =)
I found the vega, likewise some other boats, tends to quickly pivot due to wind and current especially at slow pace. She seems quite light and sensitive. Sometimes I couldn't predict where she would turn and how quickly (usually very quickly) for example straight after leaving a berth. In this video, the problem was also not managing to turn when moving forward. I came to the conclusion that I was trying to use the engine to gain speed, but this, together with a moderate wind from the direction I wanted to turn, was also preventing to turn (due to the effect of the propeller on the keel, I think, contrary to a boat with propwash). So a solution to this would be to gain a minimum speed forward, put the engine in neutral (!!) and only then steer with the tiller. At least this is my theory! I don't have a Vega anymore to verify.
'Promosm' ✨
Really enjoyed this! As a kid I sailed these ports. Thanks for the video
I’m sure you got a DSQ since you fouled another boat near the turning mark and didn’t exonerate yourself with a 360 turn. Anyway, at least no damage and no injuries. You have much to learn about sailboat racing. Hang in there
Yes, I hope to learn a lot in the future about racing, I'd like to join as a crew member some of the classic races in the south of England this year... But don't know anyone at the moment.
@@andreafabi4135 That’s the spirit. I’m sure you can find a site on a boat if you go over to Cowes.
Shame about the rhythm!
Yes got my self Albin vega 27 n 2905 I enjoy...waiting for the next adventure
Good film and music!
IMPORTANT, please read, this is a 360 degree video. If you are watching this on a computer make sure to reframe the video to the action, clicking and dragging with the mouse. If using a phone, move around the phone to see the main action.
how is it oing?~ Omg! total epic video-take care- fellow,
Love this! The music is gorgeous with it too. The drone stuff especially. 😍
Thank you! I'm still learning how to properly fly this drone, but I think I'm improving. 😊
Great video, thanks for sharing What about AWA 90º? speed I imagine you're doing close to 10knts right?
Hi, thanks! I don't remember precisely, but I think your estimates are correct. I think we were a bit more than 90º and the speed was slightly below 10knots, but under gusts and planing we touched 13knots.
Port Patrick looks nice.
One of the best harbour!
i miss so much good really good time avec les ecole de vie boc
09:00 enjoyed your video - thank you. Would you do this under sail now you've got some more miles under your belt?
Possibly. With tailwinds should be fine, but need to be really careful because wind often change direction sharply in narrow passages and also the waves make the boat change direction all the time, so there is a risk of involuntarly gybe. The consequenses in that case can be quite dangerous. If I was motoring though I would keep the sails ready to be hoisted in case the engine fails for any reason.
