Way to go being a step ahead in our profession with talking about this diversity and racial disparity. Thank you for being relevant and aware.

Becky Smith and Tracy Hogue do amazing work for Children’s Hospital of San Antonio. Not only do they provide great patient care, they also secure the future of Child Life by coordinating the Child Life internship program. Great Job! #ChildLifeMonth

Every day, I meet patients and families where they are to help them concur a fear, work through emotions, and create opportunities to learn in order to promote control in a sometimes chaotic environment. I am a Certified Child Life Specialist working with patients with hematology, oncology, or other chronic or life-threatening diagnoses. Sometimes I meet children with tears in their eyes and have 5 seconds to gain their trust before a needle is inserted or scary information is shared. Sometimes, I leave rooms with tears in my eyes after witnessing resilience in the purest form or heartbroken parents as they hear bad news. I beam with pride as a child yells "I did it!" and I love leading brave parades around my clinic. I wouldn't trade this job for the world.

Do you take on students as well? My university offers child life as a degree, but I receive no guidance or support of any kind from my university. (I am currently in the process of securing an internship. The internship is required in order for me to graduate from my university). This would be something that I believe students could really take away from. Thank you, Ashley

Thank you for your question. The ACLP Mentor Program is for Certified Child Life Professionals who have been employed for at least one year. Although the Mentor Program is not appropriate for students or interns, other resources are available to future child life professionals. All ACLP members have access to the ACLP Community (link available from the ACLP homepage at www.childlife.org), and there is a forum just for students called ACLP Students & Interns Discussion Forum. If you're not an ACLP member, you might consider reaching out to a child life department at a local hospital. Best of luck to you!

I would love to become part of the mentoring program as a beginning Child Life Professional. The link did not work to the website, so where can I learn more information about this? Thank you!
