Green Iron TV

Welcome to Green Iron TV, a channel focused on the collecting and restorations of historic military vehicles. Episode 1 will begin with an introduction and walk around on our first featured vehicle, a 1967 Kaiser Jeep M725 Military Ambulance that we recently purchased. This will be the first in a series as we restore this vehicle and show and highlight several other historic military vehicles, their owners and collectors.

    @@Apcrawler We are running radial tubes. The important thing is that the 12.5 wide tire only has a 9" wide tread width which is the same size as the original NDT's. side wall bulge is not measured on the old tires for sizing like it is on modern tires.

    @@greenirontv324 awesome, thank you so much for the info! So this would be true for any other tire of the same size as well correct? I put a .50cal bullet antenna on it, tan seat covers with the Molly bags, and installed my bridge plate on the front bumper. I took it off of my 1986 m1008 army truck before I got rid of it. I worked as a Diver on an Air Force tracking station, we had a M715 we had to get to alot of beach landing sites with rudimentary trails, the thing was a beast along with an M37 that we used this was in the 80s still going strong. They finally DRMOd the 715 and M37 I bid on both but only got the M37 for $800, there was another dude bidding against me for the M715. We used those and an old CJ3b too go offroading, the M715 broke the frame, it took us for ever to get it back finally recovered it with a M935 tow rig.

    When preparing a military vehicle for display or parade, how do you research the correct configuration? For example, let's say you want to configure an M-715 as it may have been used in the USAF on a US base in 1970. Are the paint colors different? What about decals?

    You are very correct in your thinking. There are the purists and the creators. I never knew that your M715 was originally a restomod. What I thought was pretty good was when you put the 230 back in yours, you did the civilian carburetor on it and I’m sure it runs much better with the Holley 2 barrel carb than the original 1 barrel. I have a 1955 M38A1 I bought over 25 years ago and the matching M100 trailer. The Jeep had left the Marines and went to the county for over 30 years where it was basically demiled. After I bought it, I spent a lot of time trying to put it as much back to stock as possible. I drove it for years with the factory drive train in it and 4 wheeled it for years in stock form, pulling the trailer everywhere I went. Even showed it at an off road show with cammo nets like a diarama type set up with cots , web gear, sand bags, everything, had a blast and took 1St place, best of show. But the old F-head just wouldn’t do what I needed. So I left it as military as I could on the outside and went to a stock small block Chevy engine in it. I still run trails with it, and still pull the trailer with it with all my base camp gear in it. I love my old M38A1 and it’s little quirk’s. Enjoy your channel very much and your content is great. Keep up the great work your doing. My favorite thing to do with my Jeep is to take the Jeep and trailer to shop for Christmas trees with the wife every year.

    Thanks, yes the M715 originally had a Pontiac 400 v8 in it and when I ran the numbers on the block it was out of a 1974 Trans Am. When I made the switch back to the stock 230, I sold the 400 and made enough to basically pay for all the new NOS pieces I needed to do the swap back. I did not change the carb though, it is the stock 1 barrel Holly. Glad you are able to continue to enjoy your M38a1 they are such fun little vehicles.

    Looking for an opinion - What do you think of the fiberglass tops for 715? I am going to visit Boyce in Utah next week and he says he may not make anymore, I have to store my truck out doors and i think it would be a better choice all season and pack away my soft top for summer use. What do you think?

  • @greenirontv324
    @greenirontv3243 ай бұрын

    I have not really used any of the hardtop options for my M715. It came with a homemade metal one that I quickly removed. I love have the top off mine and it spends all summer with it off. I guess having to store it out side would make having a hardtop a big thing as you could better seal it for the weather and not have to worry about the soft top ripping or leaking.

    The warning stickers were applied at the motorpool level once the vehicles reached the units. More than likely it was because some motorpool sergeant gave private snuffy a stack of warning sticker to go apply to all the vehicles in the motorpool and not knowing any different, they were just applied to everything there.
