Having grown up in poverty, I had to overcome a lot. I feel that the scarcity in my childhood directly affected my adult habits. Once I got a decent paying job after college, over-buying and over-spending were huge issues for me and I'm still dealing with some of that mess!
Now that I'm 40, I find myself going back to where I came from. I'm pinching pennies to save more, however I'm also trying to balance saving money with quality of life. I used to think more stuff and money could make me happy. Boy was I wrong! We've become more frugal, mindful and minimal and our lives have greatly improved! I'm a full-time working mom and I plan to upload videos about frugality and minimalism at least once a week.

My grandma was born 1921 and lived famine and war (when in university) and she would reuse even envelopes, for lists and notes - she was reusing everything (and used beautiful things found in nature, for decor; and... rubbed hand spots with finished lemon or put juice from hands on face, when processing fruits, or used end of vegetables to rub on face or make broth etc.).

My sister's family eats very little bread and they keep it in freezer.
I am more lazy and use cheapest sandwish plastic bags to portion meat containers and, then, store them in a bigger freezer bag.

My husband tubsocksget old, I wash and bleach them. Cutting in half and putting them around my jars that I put in the freezer. Keep them from cracking if you have a child that's in the freezer all the time. Also, I use a plastic straw to suck out air in my freezer bags

Im 70 been n 3 bad car wrecks n a fire was robbed almost murdered n left to die n noone cared...rotten family but my 3 cars love me. I live alone n am lonely. Trying torecover but its ruff. Tired n lack sleep. On social security and SSI $963 n 112 food stamps so have to b frugal ben frugal all my life. Cut leg off old PJs n sew one hole closed n wear at nite so head is warm so heat can b turned down. My wealthy late frugal uncle would get one Sunday newspaper.a week then remove funnies to use as wrapping paper n string tie. Remove coupons use n trade w others. After reading paper hed wrap around broomstick and use metal coathanger to tie then hed have a free firelog or 52 a year. After burning n woodburner hed compost ashes n when hanger gets brittle hed throw n with scrap metsl to sell.hence no waste.
If u take a cloth dip it n water n squeeze water out dip damp cloth in cigarette ashes then rub over any silver and wipe dry the tarnish will b gone it works n its free. N no chemicals

In reading the comment below about washing hair with Ivory and rinsing with vinegar I am inspired. I have been concerned about all the chemicals going right into my head every time I wash my hair, and I am going to make a change. I do use a nicer soap than Ivory (a French lavender) but there isn't anything better than vinegar for getting all the well-water mineral build-up off my hair and making it so shiny. Now back to the luxury soap--I can afford the things I really want by being frugal on those things that don't add real value to my life. That's especially true of giving. I tell my friends with new cars that if I had a car payment I couldn't afford to travel . . . there's some food for thought.
This is soooo good. Thanks! My twist on Christmas wrapping is using Trader Joe's sacks and the newspaper comics--both can be made into really festive and fun wrapping. Also, just using a bit less of everything--shorter pieces of tape on the wrapping, half the recommended amount of dishwasher soap, shampoo, and conditioner. Our biggest thing is not buying everyone in the family their own car, and catching rides, or asking people to pick things up (I always pay for their gas when I make this request). This sounds like a drag, but it actually means I stay home more, which is a HUGE savings!
