I was in a bar about a year ago and for some reason the conversation am,er to the best mad scientist and the popular opion was Gene Wilder as Dr. Frankenstein. While that was fun I said Herbert West aka Jeffery Combs and so much scoffing to the idea. Are you kidding me you are going to go with a Mel Brooks comedic role over this role which was comedic in its own right but no he had the knowledge, the obsession and just the overall myopic view that is a mad scientist?

What a great movie. I saw it when it was released in '81. And hear what he said at 1:22 mark, about the alloted "three score and ten" years of life? I'm now here in 2023 and.... (01) People are oh so giddy with exictement that people are now living into their '90s, and longer...but (02) They ain't real happy with the possibity of all that Alzheimer's and dimentia but they are working on that because, after all, living as long as possible is now oh so much more important then the personal quality of that life because, well (03) Just like in this movie, the doctors like to play god and, well, don't forget all that money they, the hospitals, etc., make...but at the same time (04) There is now a growing interest in, and favor of, euthanasia, i.e., the plot of this movie, of letting the individual decide when he's had enough of life on this planet and oh my the outrage...just like the doctor in this movie...is amazing but...at the same time (05) No one is to have any problem at all with "terminating" a pregnancy, you know, abortion, because after all, that has nothing to do with even the possibility of the "life" of the "fetus" but is all reduced to "my body my choice". Life made sense back in '81. Here in 2023? Not so much. A great movie indeed....

Between Brunt and Weyoun....and The Question. That's how I'll always remember him. He's a bad man though.
@madamvaudelune32982 жыл бұрын
What makes a man splendid? What makes him a master craftsman of the art of commanding attention? Not a question easily answered. In the military, where I served for ten years, an ability to project strenngth and leadership and command was a man's ticket to success. But I have seen priests walk as tall as any general and with manly grace, projecting gentleness. The amazing Mr. Combs has a following that finds, in his finely balanced set of qualities, a vintage of unexpected, intoxicating flavors: a Shakespearean dramatic presence with a Stanislavski-Strasbourg edge that broaches no compromise. His intensity ( and sometimes his inflection) and ability to focus the camera's complete attention remind me of the magnificent Claude Rains, another 'short king' who knew how to masterfully dominate the screen. What a professional he is.
