    I could see Last Light being similar to the walking dead, without the zombies. I definitely got Daryl Dixon and Beth vibes. I just recently re-read Last Light and I still love that book. Princess did frustrate me, the heroine was a bit immature and I was frustrated with the hero as well. I gave Embers 4 stars, I need to re-read it again to see if I still enjoy it. Hero is one of my favorites of the series, i identified with the heroine a lot. For Citadel I am nearsighted, so if I don’t wear my glasses I can’t see anything 🤓. Think of it as a camera that goes unfocused, that’s my life without glasses. So in the kindled world I would be screwed 😂. When Claire Kent does a spin off, I’m hoping she gives us more of the ladies in the world who are a group, I want to see what happens with them.

    I saw your review on Goodreads where you said “Sarah J Maas wishes”, I laughed when I saw that 😂. I can understand why you didn’t like the wild man, it’s definitely not for everyone and I completely understand why you didn’t like the heroine, she made a lot of dumb decisions. I felt like her male family babied her too much.

  • @helenreads

    @brandyreads her family dynamic was the most unenjoyable part of the book for me. When it was just the two of them together I actually really enjoyed it, even if I felt like she wasn't the most intelligent heroine ever. But her family and the end of the book was not for me lol

    I read two books by Katee Roberts, Blood on the Tide and Court of the Vampire Queen. I can’t get into her writing. I probably won’t be reading anything else from them. Court of the Vampire Queen had way too much boring sex in every chapter and almost every page, and I love my smut! In Blood on the Tide, the sapphic sex was barely described .

  • @helenreads

    @Wjyndigo those are two of her books I haven't read, but that is largely the issue I have with them too. In her newer books the sex is largely boring and the have no plot just vibes. I don't mind one or the other, but both makes her books unenjoyable for me

    @@helenreadsI literally closed the book at chapter 3 and I almost DNF’d Court of the Vampire Queen. But I am a masochist and had to keep reading to see the end. What actual plot was in there was interesting. You just had to wade through all of the sex!

    I would say transcendence is similar to the wild man. I did read that Emma Castle book love in the wild that was another Tarzan retelling and it was a 3.5 to me, that one reminded me too much of the Disney retelling.

    Thank you for such a thorough review and the color comparisons. I really don't understand how a palette with such similar shades made it past the drawing board? I really do like the vibe of this palette, but at that price point, I expect each shade to be an individual, not a dupe.

    I have been reading the Alliance series by S.J. Tilly These books are ridiculous. They're mafia, over-the-top men. Nero stalks his girl after he hides in her apartment from the police, and leaves random 100 dollar bills everywhere for her to find until he decides Fine He'll Take her. Then in King, the girl witnesses him murder someone so instead of killing her he forces her to marry him (my least favorite). Then Dom tricks King's sister into marrying him so he can join the alliance. When she finds out she throws her ring out the window, so like any insane mafia man he drugs her while she's asleep and tattoos his name across her ring finger 4 times. Then he tattoos her name around his neck lol. And my favorite Hans is a crazy Mercinary who is obsessed with his neighbor, but won't talk to her, but still eats the baked goods she leaves on his doorstep every day even though they're awful. (zucchini and chocolate chip lol) I'm reading this one now.

    I hate it when I’m into a book and all of a sudden the tone changes and it makes the book less enjoyable, I want to say to the author “what are you doing? No, don’t do that!”. It’s almost like the author took a break away from the book, then came back to it how many months later.

    I'm so sorry your mental health hasn't been great. As someone who suffers from my own issues, my heart goes out to you. I hope you have a support system around you. I can see both sides of the AI-generated art argument. I think it's a useful tool for brand-new independent authors looking to establish a name for themselves. Because publishing is expensive. There is usually no financial return since not many are reading their books yet. But once they have the Revenue they Should pick up and use a cover artist. The Art World is competitive enough without competing with an AI system. They need the authors' support. Authors I won't read, are H.D. Carlton, Raven Kennedy, Mariana Zapata (but only because my impatient heart can't take the slowest burns in history lol), and especially Kate Stewart because I swear she killed off a character for no other reason than to make her readers cry, it was unnecessary for the storyline and it pissed me off.

  • @helenreads
    @helenreads3 ай бұрын

    Thank you for the kind words ❤ Mariana Zapata is an author I've been interested in, but the page length of her books are wild for romances where the couple doesn't get together until the very end 😅 I don't mind slow burn but that seems excessive 😂

    That’s weird about that author that disappeared, hopefully everything is okay with her. I’ll have to check out that series by Kathryn Moon soon. I’m currently reading Til All the Seas Run Dry and honestly I’m ready to DNF it. I am so BORED and disappointed in it, because I was looking forward to this book as well🤦🏻‍♀️. I started skimming the book at this point, because there are things I like about the book but there are parts that linger that I don’t care about 🤷🏻‍♀️. I didn’t like how Callem was the one who attacked Jory, especially because imagine if she was human, he would have killed her and he’s lucky she is a selkie, so that was convenient. I feel like if the author does do another book, I will read it and it will be my deciding factor if I want to keep giving the author a chance, or to stop reading her. I also felt like the secondary characters were setting up to other books (which I hate) 😬. Girl I’m terrified of sharks 🦈 as well, so I don’t blame your husband for being scared of them 😂.

    We are the same when it comes to Valentine’s Day. My husband and I don’t really care about it, because you shouldn’t just show your love on one day. My husband and I are always doing things for each other all year round. I also told my husband that I hate cut flowers, because it’s a waste and they will die. I’d rather have something that I can keep alive, like a plant. But I want it to be the easiest plant I can take care of or I don’t want it 😂. I will buy my husband some peanuts or peanut brittle, and he will usually buy me some chocolate, but other than that we don’t go out on the holiday. Yeah I’m not a fan of politics or political plots in novels, but I’m also not a fan of the author either, I’ve enjoyed a couple of her novella’s though. Also I feel like once an author goes traditionally published, they have to tame down their books to fit that companies sensibilities, where I feel like indie authors are more daring with their work. Hence why most of what I read now are indie authors.
