Historic Forrest

Welcome to Historic Forrest. History and Travel are my hobbies. I have created a KZread channel dedicated to History, Historical Sites, Historical Events, Genealogy, My Travel and Timeshares.

A little about me. My name is Steven Forrest. I retired from the federal government where I worked for the Department of the Navy for 36 years. Most of that time was spent at the Naval Audit Service. I have a degree in Physics, with a minor in Mathematics. I also have a Masters of Business Administration. I have also spent over 20 years as a Revolutionary War re-enactor and a War of 1812 re-enactor. I am a member of the Norfolk Historical Society and I am the Fort Norfolk Historian for the Norfolk Historical Society. I have always enjoyed history and now I have the time to explore history more.

I hope you enjoy this KZread Channel.

I'm a native Texan and we always celebrated Juneteenth since I was a kid (I'm 51). December 18th is too close to Christmas so the .gov cannot and will not add anything that can distract people from spending money on key holidays. Plus, the main person that pushed for it was from Texas. Holidays rarely coincide with truth or facts but often with financial gain and convenience. Go down the rabbit hole of looking into holidays and you may stop celebrating all of them. We continue to enjoy juneteenth as a reason to get together with family, have some BBQ and play some games. It's usually 100 degrees outside but it's better than trying to do that in the cold. Good video overall. Thanks for posting.

The Emcapation Proclamation legally had no effect in the Confederate States. The slaves still had to escape to the North. You actually think those southen slave owners said "ok you can go now".

Juneteenth is a fake receipt to appease, pacify and mute indigenous people from claiming their rights and claims to this land mass; while giving foreign countries millions and billions (eg. Ukraine and Israel). Periodt.

Texas knew about the emancipation of slaves through an invention called the telegraph. Through the ingenuity of blacks and their incredible communication system some blacks knew they were free, but, their owners would not free them. After Texas won the last battle of the Civil War on May 13, 1865, Kirby Smith surrendered the Confederacy west of the Mississippi on June 2, 1865. The North then sent troops to Texas to occupy Texas and MAKE them end slavery. Texas ex-slaves celebrated June teeth ever since. So, slavery ended for most states already. As the gentleman correctly stated Delaware and Kentucky followed along the Oklahoma Native Americans when their leader surrendered.

Juneteeth became a Federal Holiday because of Donald Trump! he was going to have a political Rally on the 19 of June and the Democrat party went crazy and claimed he hated black people because is was disrespecting their day, it was not a national holiday at that time! Trump changed the date of the ralley and as soon as Joe Biden got into office the democrats decided to make Juneteenth. a day no one had ever heard of, into a National Holiday. If Trump had not planned a rally on that date there would be NO Juneteenth national holiday,

The moral of the history of Juneteenth was that the Southern Democrats & white liberals like today still have black folks brainwashed to vote for the same party for decades, which makes no sense.

The commonwealth of Kentucky never involved itself in slavery. That’s not to say there wasn’t slaves there. Kentucky was neutral during the revolutionary and civil war. Under these terms of being neutral the commonwealth couldn’t free any slaves. The slaves and owners there existed under the laws of the federal government, the commonwealth being neutral had no authority under law to free the slaves. It was considered to be solely a federal issue.

Here's ONE fact that no one seems to know: When only the Black slaves were emancipated they all didn't leave here, or anyplace in The West. America gave ONLY the Black slaves their own country, in their beautiful Africa, Liberia. They named their capital city after the American president who signed the papers that transfer the country to those Black slaves. The same with the ONLY OTHER COUNTRY that gave their freed slaves their own country in Africa, Britain. That country is Sierra Leone. The problem is that we in The West are TOO DAMN NICE. We didn't make them leave. It is our ancestors fault Blacks (et al) are still here. It is our ancestors fault those people were here in the first place. It is those Blacks who's nature is NOT to be peaceful -- Sierra Leone, and Liberia are on the west coast of Africa. Instead of sharp hotels and a country that encourages tourism and such like, those freed slaves rather liked violence so there is no tourism there, just bullets and death. -- much like Haiti. With all their opportunities they choose VIOLENCE, and choose to BLAME OTHERS and not look at their own "culture".

Lincoln wanted issue the proclamation earlier than he did but his cabinet didn't think it politically feasible. So it was delayed. The dynamics of what led to the war effectively were all around the question of slavery. The war can really be viewed as nothing less than the fight to abolish slavery on this continent and consign it to the dustbin of history. The notion that this was about "states rights" wasn't forwarded until _after_ the war with the intent of altering the historical narrative. As far as "Juneteenth" goes, we celebrate it as a federal holiday because someone was able to use it to score political points and nothing more. Just look at the circumstances around it and ask yourself how many people outside of Texas knew of the day five years ago.

I’m 87 a white Texan. Most of my adult life I’ve known about Juneteenth and celebrate it along with the black community. The border states including Kentucky and Delaware were not in rebellion with the CSA. That’s why the emancipation proclamation never applied to them. However saying Juneteenth should not be the celebrated marking point for the end of slavery in the south is disingenuous. The south fought the war to keep slavery. The north, after the 13th passed, was then about beating the south to stop slavery in the south, and indeed in the entire United States. Your leaving out the history of the border states sounds to me like you want everyone to believe the south was good, was not the last place slavery existed in the United States and really you want to believe the south was no worse than sexual slavery is today. You sir, and your attempt to somehow forgive the south for having slavery because the war was about states rights, that is, the right of the state to let one person own another person. Indeed, almost all southern states listed the continued slavery as the reason for their secession. (Any time anyone talks about the north invading the south you know you’ve got a southern states rights person on your hands. It’s the reason Trump/MAGA and southern racism exists to this day.) The United States won, the south lost because of slavery. Get over it. Btw I have two great grandfathers who fought for the south, both privates. They probably would have been hung had they not fought, but my grandparents both were racists. Time to be what America set out to be, free of prejudice and hate.

One date you neglected to mention is July 4, 1863. That's the day that Vicksburg, Mississippi fell to Union troops under the command of US Grant, and the people there enslaved were indeed set free. BTW, why is the 9 silent? Is it because numbers are racist?

I’ve read slave holders in some northern states where slavery wasn’t illegal kept their slaves until the amendment was added to the Constitution. I’ve read General Grant kept his slaves. When asked He said, Because good help is hard to find. The History Channel stated this was false. I’ve got it in books written in about 1900. That states this. Lincoln’s #1General a slave owner ?

The fact that Deleware and Kentucky held out for five extra months has nothing to do with the evils of slavery and the reasons the institution started in the first place. Southern States were not evil, but they were practicing evil in the institution of slavery. Was it all about slavery? No. As usual, it was about money and power, and slavery was a big part of the wealth of the South. I find this video informative, but lacking in its thesis.
