    The drums for my blinds are plastic, the Lowes Faux Wood Blind Drum with a 5/32" Square Tilt Rod. Since my original drums had crumbled, I wasn't able to see exactly what they looked like before the blinds collapsed. Your video shows a different kind of drum, so it isn't helping me figure out how to attach the ladder strings to the drums and put the clips on. Am I supposed to somehow wedge the strings into the little slots with the little metal pieces underneath? I can't help/pull from the other side and so far they don't want to go in the slots, but I can't think of any other way it would work. So I think I need to find a tool to help make it happen. Is that what I need to do?

  • @fixmyblinds
    @fixmyblinds15 күн бұрын

    Hi there! I use a small thin screwdriver to push the ends of the ladder strings into the slots on that drum. Then, a plastic retainer piece snaps to the top of the drum to hole the strings securely. If you'd like to send an email, I'm happy to share some instructional pictures of how to put the string ladder onto that drum. Our email is [email protected].

    @@fixmyblinds Thanks! That is what I did. Had trouble getting the retainer piece in at first, but figured out it works best to position the small single clip end first and push on that end slightly ahead. If the other end goes in and the single clip end doesn’t go it, it is hard to get it in. Or maybe I was just too timid to push it too hard and break it. But I got all 5 done, then realized one of them had one ladder string twisted with the pull string. Sigh! So I have to raise the pull string up to untwist and run it back down and plug the bottom. It pays to notice all the details!! But it wasn’t easy to see the problem until I hung the blinds. Now I know what to look for on the next one.

    Thanks for this video. All this time I thought the lift cords had to be even at the rail end ! I have a method to save slats. or replace them . I group the slats below the broken slat together into a tight stack. then pull the cords. I took a homemade hook made on the end of a thin rod, and pulled doubled fishing line through the lower slats so there is a loop to pull the free end of the cord out the bottom of the stack. The slots on mine were too narrow for knots or tape to clear. Figure out a way around that, and you can run a single fishline.

    When your vertical shade has 2 sets of holes, both ends of the string end up on the same side (the moving side). When the shade is stacked open, both ends of the string lay under the upper rail, so that as the shade is closed, one end is connected to the upper set of holes while the other end is connected to the lower set of holes. My shades have 4 plastic guides, with a small bar across one side and a small hole. Three of these glides point toward the center of the shade, while the 1st one points up. The shade is strung by starting at the upper moveable rail, coming down the shade to the upper set of holes with the string going under the small bar on the glide, going through the small hole in the glide (the small hole being pushed into the holes of the fabric), going though the set of holes in the fabric through the small hole in the glide and then under the bar in the glide, going down the shade to toward the lower set of holes under the bar and through the hole of the glide, coming back through the lower set of holes to the side that you started on going through the hole and under the bar of the glide, and both ends of the string going back up to the top. One end of the string is anchored to the end plate, the other end of the string loops through the same end plate and is attached to the tension clip. There are 4 end caps that go on the top and the bottom of the vertical rails. One of these clips has a small metal horizontal bar in the middle of it. This is one one that goes on the top of the moving side. The two ends of the string thread through the clip and run over this metal bar.

    Hello, this is great, however, I need other parts fixed on this Decomatic Vertical Blind. Is there a series for all the parts on this headrail? Specifically, the chain does not easily thread the end gear and rotate the vanes. How do I pull that end piece apart to see what's wrong with the gear? Also, it appears there are chain connectors (apparently the chain was broken at some point) and they appear to be close to the gear. How do I avoid that area of the chain going through the gear?

  • @fixmyblinds

    Hi there, If the chain isn't opening the slats open and closed very well, that indicates that the gear is stripped. To see if we have the replacement gear you need, please email a few pictures to us. Our email address is [email protected].
