    I think that maybe going forward, they could maybe use a few of George's ideas for an animated series set before or during the Sequel films. Not retconning the films, but adding more to them. I think some of the much more out there ideas, like the Whills and the Midi-Chlorians, would work better in animation, like the Yoda arc in Season 6 of the Clone Wars. Maybe Leia could have a similar story about accepting death and learns about Rey's relationship to Palpatine. If an animated series is set before TFA, I could also see Luke working with surviving Jedi from Order 66. There was concept art in The Mandalorian for Plo Koon, so that'd be a cool character dynamic of two similar but different Jedi. It could add more to the downfall of Luke's Jedi Academy. Overall despite my few problems, I do still enjoy most of The Last Jedi, with the exception of Canto Bight and how that arc was messy, and the specific choice to have Luke throw the lightsaber, even though I understand what Rian and JJ were going for and I like a flawed Luke.

    Sorry, but I can't agree with the general narrative. Lucas and Ryan just aren't similar. Ryan's whole schtick is being subversive and cynical. Lucas is a visionary with tons of ideas, some if which are good, some of which are bad. But everything he makes feels genuine. It doesn't feel like he's trying to pull a "gotcha" with the audience. Ryan having Luke throw away Anakin's saber as a "joke" exemplifies the difference between the two directors to a T. And maybe you like the The Last Jedi... But most people didn't, and this shows in the merch sales and the lukewarm fan reception. Star Wars is not supposed to be cynical and subversive. The soul of the franchise was not present during that film. Not calling you a Disney shill, I'm just guessing you really like subversive and cynical movies.

  • @StarWarsCentralized

    I do like subversive movies, but I don’t think Rian is nearly as cynical as you’re letting on. He dabbles in cynicism, but mostly uses it as a tool to emphasize themes that are actually genuine - an artistic technique that definitely doesn’t land for all.

    Disney should have recast Luke, Han and Leia with actors in their 20s and made a movie trilogy set a year after Return of the Jedi. Why would Palpatine want his empire destroyed, when his big plan was to come back in a cloned body? He would have to gain control again and lose many of his followers because he made it very clear how little he cares for them. Operation Cinder is just another inconsistent and stupid decision by Disney that shows how important it would have been to actually take some time and plan this through. Im not even a fan of legends but at least it makes sense.

I would like to see how many aliens you can find like one of my favorites, the gand or maybe that worm species (TFA SP. #13) that is subtly seen in the background of maz's castle who would (I think) make an appearance in obi wan kenobi at episode 2 at the time 2:26 minutes into the episode where one and what seems to be its offspring walking on the left of the screen. As much as I don't like most of Disney canon, it does give us a pretty unique (for Star Wars) situation after TROS. There's no government at all. The New Republic was wiped out by Starkiller Base, the First Order is gone. Sith Eternal are gone. There's no government. It's a blank slate.

    Palpatines contingency to "destroy" the empire and new republic during the battle of jakku as you explained makes no sense with how huge the empire actually was. It's literally not possible for the empire to have all their resources situated in one planet. Do people have any idea how absolutely enormous the empire and the galaxy is? For the empire to be present in the entire galaxy it has hundreds of thousands if not millions of naval vessels. This idea that the empire could and would have most of their forces in one battle is impossible and a logistical nightmare. Biggest battle of the war? Certainly. But this idea that most of both of their forces would be destroyed is just not possible.

  • @Blackdeathgaming-yv1kk
    @Blackdeathgaming-yv1kk5 күн бұрын

    That being said, you explain it way better then most of the canon did. But I still think the empire could've achieved exactly what you explained by just targeting mew republic worlds. If one is forced to commit atrocities you either go through with it and become more fanatical because there's no point of return as you're a war criminal or you condemn it and join the new republic as you explained as someone that still has the imperial ideals.

    I have a feeling this comes from a desire to have the Good Guys associate with a faction with more nuance than an overly heroic and propagandistic faction like the Old Republic of the Clone Wars. As much as I loved a lot of the older Legends books, on retrospect it bothers me that a lot of the books endorsed the kind of Galactic Policing and foreign violence, like those reflected in real world proxy wars. I like that they've portrayed the New Republic as a more flawed government, much more akin to many real-world newly made democracies after years of dictatorial rule. There was a deleted scene in The Force Awakens where Leia and an agent of hers were frustrated that the New Republic was not committing enough to battle the First Order, and was being complacent and I while it is in the Novelization, it would have helped and added more weight to Starkiller Base destroying it. I'd like to see more of that. An exploration of the morally gray waters of the NR trying to move forward and demilitarize. I have a feeling that after Thrawn's death, they will become more isolationist, like how it was in The Force Awakens.
