    I really love MCDM but the more I learn about the game the less I am interested in it. A real shame as I appreciate what matt has done for rpgs in general. Still, I hope it will be successful. I might actually buy it once it is finished but doubt that I'll ever play it. But who knows?

  • @the_dice_society

    The game is for sure not for everyone, you shouldn't feel bad if you don't like it! However, if you buy it, I'd recommend giving it a try. You really can't judge a game just by reading its rules.

    @the_dice_society I backed it because thus far I like what MCDM has done. Haven't had the energy to keep up with the development though (apart from the occasional Q&A and now this pod/vodcast) Figured though that at worst it'd become a game to inspire me with some ideas/houserules/lore for whatever game/system I am running. At best it will form the base for whatever I import from other games/systems. And if i want to play again it gives me more options to choose from.

    Whats the feel of not rolling dice for damage? Needing to look up a chart, stuff like that?

  • @the_dice_society
    @the_dice_society9 күн бұрын

    It's not more complicated than rolling to hit, looking up the damage you deal, and then rolling damage. And it's a little faster because you only roll once

    So, I played a Commander in DC20, it was super fun! The Commander I played was based off the Hausa cavalier (look up the Durbar festival). Listening to you describe the Tactician sounded exactly like the fantasy of my character when I was making him. This is going to be so fun! I might make the same character just to test the difference in feel.

    My only problem with the power roll is that it seems like the target's statistics don't affect the outcome of the roll. Eg. Concussive Slam always deals 6 damage and slide 2 on a roll of 8 or higher, no matter what the target's armor, evasion, size, etc. are. This might not be the case when we learn more about the game though.

  • @the_dice_society
    @the_dice_society20 күн бұрын

    That is only partially the case with the current rules. Monsters and heroes can have damage immunities and forced movement resistance, for example; both of these could change how effective Concussive Slam is. There is also the Resistance Roll (akin to 5e's Saves), which is another way to mitigate effects.

    I think we have seen a Hakaan, the Pillar of Ten Thousand Years in the Talent fiction (the strong lady that turns to steel and holds the boulder above her head). There was also Koh in Dusk, but that was before and they might have changed things as they developed them for the RPG.

  • @the_dice_society

    True, the Pillar was a Hakaan! But, IIRC, they are changing the look of the ancestry, so the Pillar might already be outdated.

    The concern about the "right" choice for how to make a dwarf is no different than what we currently have in 5e when it comes to selecting Backgrounds, Classes, Skills, and spells. This ain't 1e, Dwarf itself isn't a character type. New players will handle the culture choices the same way as the others, I imagine, with the added benefit that they get guidance for what Dwarves are like in this world.

  • @the_dice_society
    @the_dice_societyАй бұрын

    I completely agree, it's very similar to 5e in terms of complexity! My personal opinion, however, is that 5e's character creation process is too difficult for new players.

  • @the_dice_society
    @the_dice_society4 ай бұрын

    As far as I can tell, there is no more need for impact dice. If an attack would have come with additional d8s, then it can just do extra damage in all 3 categories of the power roll.

    The Power Roll with the tables can make homebrew and prep very straighforward. You can use the same concept to resolve any test on the fly, like haggling with a vendor, and to craft a magic item, create a new weapon or to give a player a reward that improves one of their abilities, because it can always come down to those short Power Roll tables, that have at most 4 or so steps. If you want to create a firearm, for instance, you can start from another ranged weapon, add a step for a really low roll that causes a misfire and improve range/damage at the higher steps, and that still leaves room for the player to have other abilities that add to range and damage, because of how flexible the tables are. They are not tied to the dice sizes.
