People like Dawkins and Hitchens are (were) enchanted by their intellects, their command of English and their ability to dazzle many people with written and (in Hitchen's case also) spoken English. Their crusade against stupid religious people is largely an endeavor to aggrandize their own enormous egos. Jesus, Buddha, and all the major profets made a point of teaching how to gain wisdom by eliminating the ever destructive ego. Dawkins imagines that reverance for "scientific truth" will provide meaning for mankind. Hitchens was more down to earth; his comfort was - whiskey.

ive been an atheist my entire life but.... only after reading the bible (from old testament to new) i was able to truly comprehend just how despicable the character of "god" is. my god, what a repugnant entity. and not only hes the most awful, irredeemable and evil creature in all of fiction...but hes also such a pathetic LOSER! what a needy, self aggrandizing, narcissistic failure. you know how we cringe at these "influencers" who live for attention and validation? thats god. a cringy gen z tenager on tiktok. an all knowing and all powerful being clamoring for the unconditional praise and attention of "lesser beings". its like a grown man popping wheelies in front of toddlers on trikes and being all proud of himself....PA-TE-THIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! they could have written him any way they wanted and THIS is what they decided to go with? can you imagine if this were a person ? always boasting about everything he did, always reminding you of what he accomplished, always asserting his superiority? even if the person truly were great and accomplished, the lack of subtlety, humility and the transparent neediness would make you not want anything to do with that individual (well, unless youre 50% of america, in which case you'd vote him in as president...)

Why I love and respect Christopher Hitchens: I'm an Ex-Christian, monotheist that believes in the NDE narrative. (NOT a religion) Couldn't stand being called a Christian, from the way they treated non-Chrisitians and a whole bunch of other discrepancies of This Church! Hitchens gives to Religion; what religion has been giving to humanity for 1,500 years. If this was a life of tit for tat kind of attitude. 50 million Christians gone missing would be messy.
