    Quilt kits? Can’t prewash them…a necessity in my mind… I only recently conceded to using a real quilt pattern instead of ‘making it up as I go along’ which takes a whole lot more time… I am getting old and have too many quilts left in me to make! Yet I am fascinated by the selection available in kits! Sew to your heart’s content, so long as you keep sewing!

I , also, picked up 2 quilt kits of Tree of Life Everything is there except thread, batting and ba king . I haven't done them because The fabric choices are a bit strong. That being said, I intend to sub better choices! When I started quilting, all fabrics from a line were not available. We didnt have quilt shops or online services. Sometimes kits are actually cheaper than trying to find the fabrics first and specific pattern! We finally have a new quilt shop where I live in NC - just celebrated 1 year open. Otherwise any other quilt shop is at least a 50-mile drive and over at least an hour depending in traffic! I do our haze fabric inking but I only do it with 3 places I’m comfortable with and know their fabrics, etc.

  • @TrueBlueQuilts

    NICE! I never thought of a quilt kit as cheating! More along the lines of paying a bit extra for perfectly coordinated and measured fabrics...not a ton of leftovers. I don't purchase many kits because I do have a big stash, but sometimes I can't resist!

    Pros of Quilt kits... fabric already there and in the exact amounts of what you need, Pattern and fabric altogether . Cons of Quilt kits- limited fabric choice.. you either like what they chose, or you end up substituting to meet your creative taste (meaning possible added cost). Ready cut quilt kits have their place. Some people have trouble cutting, such as having a disability, or have issues with their hands, so may not be able to cut the material when bought off the roll. That is when kits with each piece cut, and all you need to do is sew them together, is great for those people to be able to then be part of the patchwork/quilting community. Many kits have colours/design on fabrics that I do not like. I find many quilt kits use fabrics that I find would suit more for a person who loves flowery designs, or pink colourings. But they do not suit me. As a bloke, I started my first quilts with blacks and whites.

  • @TrueBlueQuilts
    @TrueBlueQuiltsАй бұрын

    Yes, kits with precut pieces are definitely helpful if you struggle with that part of the process! I lean towards geometrical vs florals so I imagine it is difficult to find masculine choices that are not simply red-white-and-blue.
