Hi I just seen this video on youtube and thought of you and your jig, he didn't mention you and said that he has seen multiple's of this jig and took some design, I don't think so. His channle is Grumply Workshop, kzread.info/dash/bejne/h3p_ptCniLbYpMo.html
So good to see you get your mojo back and it shows. Gives me hope my workshop hiatus can also turn around once bubba is a bit more self sufficient. ❤
That's a looking bit of wall art hanging up there too. So glad it's got a good home!
@@FixitFingers 😆 it's awesome 😍
Neat! Flexi spot is one of those brands/products that feels so appropriate for makers to collaborate with. Can't help imagining what I would do to improve one! 😅
Do you know, they actually pushed back on my first couple ideas with the desk, as I wasn't going far enough with destroying their product in their eyes 😆 Quite refreshing to have a sponsor like that for once!
@@woodfather That sounds pretty awesome!
Mario, I love the Wood Father jig and it will suit my needs just fine without spending a ton of money. Anyway, thank you for doing the comparison. I’m a big fan in the USA.
What kind of paint did you use?
Great job
Thanks Andrew, I really quite like this one, using it right now even! 👍
Great video! Has this desk replaced the planned roll-top desk, or is that still going to happen?
Thanks PJ. No, the roll top is still definitely going to happen. The office has two desks, this one, and then the old tabletop I hastily installed when I built the room with is on the opposite wall. That tabletop is a junk magnet, and will be removed so that the rolltop desk can live there in future. The rolltop is going to be specific for another hobby of mine, so I'm taking my time and constantly tweaking the design to cater to my needs there. One of those, "I'm scared to start" builds, in case I do a disastrous job 😆
@@woodfather Good. I'm hoping to build one myself, so I'll be watching with keen interest.
Think this a the same as a Einhell TE-CN 18. Or even lower, a TC model. Einhell has 3 lineups TC, TE and TP. TP can most certainly compete with a brand like Ryobi or Bosch green.
That table saw looks a bad place to read. One unexpected sneeze and mini Mario is in a right pickle. The desk looks good. I nearly bought one, was just about to pull the trigger and they made us go back to the office. If I worked from home again I would definitely have one.
In a right pickle, but also, right in the pickle! 😆 I made sure the power was out before climbing up there lol. The standing function is great, changes the whole day when you can spend a couple hours standing and stretching. 👍
It's a long time since I have commented on one of your videos, however this one is realy worth a comment. . A great video. Well done. Cheers John
@@johnhunter1262 Cheers for that John, great to hear from you again! 👍
Dude, you should have put a hammock under it. That would be great.
Oh man that's a brilliant idea, I'll go buy it now 😆
1:44, thats some Jackie Chan stuff, mate 😂😂😂
He would have turned it on 😉
Who doesn’t want to have a saw blade near their pills 😮 Good one mate 🎉
Just my regular. first friday of the month, manscaping session mate 😆
"Empty desk = empty mind" 😂😂
ahahaha, that was my favourite line 😆
I see you have The Phoenix Project on your shelf. That's a great read and i recommend it to all the software engineers i work with. The Unicorn Project is worth a look as well if you got something out of TPP
Spot on Alex, I'm a big fan of both, though now you've made me realise that I've misplaced my Unicorn Project book! It should be on the same shelf, what have I done!? 😆
kzread.info/dash/bejne/mGGLq6-aZ5O_abA.htmlsi=X92UgX67FB7D0UXI. 🤣🤣
Hi mate. One quick PowerShell script and you'll be right as rain.
Luckily I now have a space to sit and read that book! 😉
Mario in moccasins: bringing sexy back.
"We're staying home tonight babe, Mario's got the moccasins out on youtube!"
Too funny. We're empty nesters now and it's wonderful! Never having to say, "Not in the house!" ( three boys ) ever again. priceless. Get yourself an under lifting-desk treadmill next. For your health/ longevity. Walks even though it's winter. Although you'll probably need a mounted very large television with interesting nature walks for you to view to make it tolerable. It'll require lots of cables, and the mount would need loads of adjustability, so it would need to be a monstrosity and take up loads of space...never mind. Great video. Thanks :-)
Oooh, i've been eyeing off a couple under desk treadmills in the last week to be honest, I think that's definitely going to happen, though maybe without the monster television to undo all my massive space saving gains :D
HAHHAHA the icons on your computer desktop triggers my OCD...
I even cleaned them up before shooting the video, you wouldn't have liked the layout earlier! 😆
Damn it costanza that’s a great desk
Thanks Manny, I'm a week in and loving it. I do need a mat to stand on though, the hard wood floor isn't very soft :D
Great desk but middle of a Melbourne winter and your are sitting on the cold floor. Your AFL team won't be the only thing "blue" haha!
ahaha, maybe I'll get myself a hot water bottle to sit on next time!
I've never understood the concept of a standing desk. The desk in my office is always cluttered and messy. I clean up every now and then, but, inevitably, it's messy a couple of days later. And, as you stated, the cords are the biggest problem. Anyway, great video as usual, but one thing soured it for me ..... the ugly picture above the desk. 🤣🤣👍
It's all tucked away now big fella, only one cord hangs down and that delivers power to the desk and all the equipment on top. I try to keep my desk 'cleanish', I don't always succeed, but I try at least. 😆 Also, GO BLUES! 👍
Great project man. The desk turned out great
Thanks Tom, I'm loving it! It's making a real difference to how I work from home which is really cool, plus getting the books out of view has been great!
I got the plans, made the jig and Bob's Your Uncle...perfect box joints for a very ornate box. This jig is probably the most easily adaptable one for all sizes and widths for your box joints. Highly recommend it.
So glad to hear it Christopher, and the photo you sent through looked amazing, came out beautiful, well done!
The time and efforst you've put in the shop reno is amazing, hatsoff. And its been been worth every second of it. Given me a few ideas for my new shop.
It's been so much fun Vipun, that's the main reason I've kept going with the process, I just keep enjoying the new space and want to spend more and more time out there 👍
Woodfather! Dumb question for you (or anyone else familiar with the jig): if you want a looser joint the pin needs to be slightly larger than the kerf of your blade? This seems counterintuitive to me? Can someone affirm and clarify?
oh my god Matthew, thankyou, I've just rewatched this video and I've mispoke! 🫨 If the joint is too tight, your key is too wide; And if your joint is too loose, your key is too thin. I can't believe I've never noticed that before, I must have watched this 100 times when editing and seemingly missed it each time. 🤦♂ I've checked the plans and the build video, and they're all good, but yep, I've said the wrong thing here, you're correct, other way round!
@@woodfather Thanks for the quick reply. I just purchased the plans off your site. Do you have a straight pdf instead of that other file type? If you don't no problem. Love your videos and the great humor!!
@@matthewn2559 the purchase is a zip file, and inside that you get a PDF and then a couple SketchUp models. You don't need the models though, that's just a bonus for people who want to visualise changes before cutting wood.
@@matthewn2559 and thanks! 🙏
@@woodfather Got the pdf figured!!
The contrasting colours in the corners looks really, REALLY good! A separate wood storage, so professional!
It's all smoke and mirrors for youtube, nothing professional here KJ 😁
@@woodfather Well, your smoke and mirrors are obviously working! 😎
Very clever! I’ll definitely get the plans and build one.
Many thanks! Let me know how you get along! 👍
Love the contrast of the two box’s mate nice horth, can we see it twat awound…..😂😂😂 cheers.
hah, cheers but you'll have to go to the new owners house to see that 😆🎠
Great video Mario. I love a workshop project and a clean out to get me going again. Glad your enjoying the shop again
Thanks Ross, it's made a crazy difference to be honest, still surprises me how different I feel when I get out there. 👍
Totally fantastic. Was not what I was expecting to watch, really nice to see you at it
Cheers Mark, a little bit of a different style in this video, some parts I like, some I'll tweak in future videos & builds, but always good fun to get back into it 🙂
Motivated to plan and build my wood storage extension!
All you need is a load of free wood to fill it up then!
@@woodfather Oh I already have that. That's the problem.... 🤨
@@PrestosTimberFurnitureAU ahahaha, well, it's a good problem to have at least 🙂
Wow! Those bottles of Chivas are completely justified by that timber gift! That is an awesome gift for any woodworker. I would hate to think what that would cost to buy.
🙂Thank you so much! I was a little concerned before I started that the bottles would be too ornate or stylish to go into a box and might look out of place, but I think in the end the box and bottle complimented each other really nicely. 👍
I completely understand how ones drive can be squashed by a cramped and messy workshop, and congratulate you on your makeover - which looks fantastic - and make me very envious. I also admire your latest version of the Pony Rocker - the contrasting wood eyes and the mouth cutout along with the other changes. It almost makes me want to dig out my router patterns and make yet another one myself.
Don, great to hear from you again, how's things? Cheers for the kind words, very much appreciated. And yep, the little pony came out really nicely this time around. The only slight concern I have is that being that this one was made from a hardwood, it's quite heavy compared to the others that I've made. Not a huge issue as you don't normally pick these up and go for a walk, but I did give the new owners a long chat around making sure they're watching the little ones as they play, would hate for a small hand to be stepped on by this pony!
I feel your anxiety about the workshop. I use 1/3 of a “2”car garage… kids bicycles & scooter take up most of my space.
I'm incredibly lucky to have so much space, I know. Originally when we bought 20 years ago we were going to put a car in here, but after one night of "open gates, move car, close gates, open garage door, move car, close garage door", my wife and I gave up and decided to to use this space for storage only. 😆 I've always had to share it with non workshop things, so yep, all the bikes, scooters, mini electric ride on cars, lawnmowers, etc, it's only since this renovation that I've finally taken the whole thing over for myself. I'll cross my my fingers for you that one day in the future you get the same luck! 🤞
Great to see you back on form. It's made me realise I need to do some serious rearranging so, thanks!
@@benjaqsonworkshop9974 thanks Ben, it's great to be back, two videos today and another in a few days I think! 🙂 a lot of the motivation has come directly from the rearranging, I literally smile when I walk in the shop these days!
@@woodfather That's great to hear and the whisky boxes look special and speak of the generosity of woodworkers.
The rocking horse was such a fun project, but I gotta give this one to Mario, I think his came out even better than mine!
Story makes the project Anth, and your story is super interesting. My story is all about how cheap I am. 😆 Although to be fair, my story is also super accurate to me and my life 😆
I've seen worse sheds for a lot more money 😂
That's the way I'm looking at it Robin 😆 It may not be gorgeous, but it does its job, and like a birdy, it was cheep cheep!
Exactly what I have been going through. Thanks for straightening this out for me. I am building some larger workspaces but I have to stay on top of the clutter.
It just builds up so fast doesn't it? I've spent the last two days making a top for a desk (future video alert), and man, both nights I've had to spend around an hour to ensure that everything is cleaned up and good to go the next morning. I need to learn to put things away as I go I think. Best of luck with your upcoming projects 👍
The audio's a bit strange on this one, Mario. Sounds like two recordings out of phase. Another odd thing, I clicked the "thumbs up" but the count stayed at 0.
I might have broken the thumbsup inadvertantly! After uploading, I realised the audio wasn't too flash, so I took the video down and intended on uploading a new version. Turns out I can't fix it sadly so I just opened this one up again. (I used a new tool in my edit software to enhance the audio, it kinda worked, kinda didn't, but at the same time, it won't let me remove the enhancement, it keeps erroring out.) Next video won't have this issue!
Audio is horrible, may want to reupload Mario.
Hi Henk, cheers for that. I used a new feature in the editing tool for audio, and kinda wish I didn't now. I've had a play around, it sounds to me like the problem is in the first minute, after that it's a little echoey but at least not bad. Well, to me anyway 😆 I'll have it fixed for the next video, promise you that!
Noice!!!!!!!!
Toit!
This is so brilliant.
Hah, cheers Duncan, hope it works for you!
My wife bought a cute music book for our baby, but it's way too loud. Thanks for showing the steps to reduce the volume - I'm going to give it a shot this weekend.
Oh wow, this is an older video so glad to see it's still doing the rounds 😄 fwiw I did this to multiple toys over the years and never had an issue, so fingers crossed for you 🤞👍
People think it’s a budget brand but the Einhell/Ozito router is a makita router in a red shell and different stickers
That's interesting if true. I've used the Makita trim router before and it felt a lot more powerful to me, but I've never used them side by side for a comparison. Having said that, I've also never a concern around the power level of the ozito, it's always smoothly cut whatever I've wanted it to. 👍
@@woodfather yeah I mean I’m I the Uk the internals could maybe be slightly or less powerful I’m not 100% but got both the makita and Einhell and they look exactly the same everything come in the box is exactly the same except the depth adjustment and the colour of plastic but in Europe they’ve got some tools that will compare on stats to the best of the big brands some that are still budget like you say
