I was hoping to possibly meet you when I move to Vietnam. You seem like you'd make a cool friend. As a fellow Viet Kieu I can relate to so many of your stories, told with great humor. You have a gift for storytelling. I loved your previous videos and was sad to see a year go by without updates. I wish you all the best in the future! Hawaii aint too shabby.

Ayyy thanks bro! There are definitely some awesome people in Vietnam so I don’t think it’ll be too hard too make friends. I’m going to try and share more stories. I don’t know if my time in Vietnam is done yet, but for now, I’m going to try this new thing. ☺️

I spent 8 years in Vietnam with dreams of running an IT outsource company there in 1999. I did but at that time it took a minute to open yahoo. I wrote so many emails to foreign companies but at that time got no replies. I only had 2 overseas clients but had trouble getting them to pay. Mainly local companies were my clients. Also I couldn't open the company in my name since I wasn't a citizen (a requirement then) and good staff were difficult to come by. I had to train them all and they would usually leave to another company or were poached by my clients. I think I was too early and might of had better results later when people understood the value of websites and email. I ended up supplementing my income with teaching. But had the same feeling as you. Eventually I came back to the west with hopes of buying a house and catching up on what I should of saved over that time. Within a few years of moving back I started to dream of moving back to VN. Many times I would think of just buying a ticket and moving back with an email to my boss that I will be working remote from now on. Once you have kids though it is difficult to get up and go compared to when you have no dependents. The truth is me and my wife would of moved back to VN a long time ago if it wasn't for the kids. Now we are waiting for my eldest to become independent or my youngest to turn 18 then we will spend half the year in VN at least. Good luck with your life in Hawaii. Save hard, live minimalist lifestyle and invest so that you can get a passive income to move back to VN. I'm sure you will get the urge to move back despite the negatives. My years in VN were some of my best in my life.

Wow, thank you so much for sharing your story. I always dreamed about doing some sort of business involving Vietnam and America, but I felt like I didn’t have the necessary skills or the right product yet. I also do feel the same and feel like there are finances I need to catch up with. Trying to save and invest. It’s been a wild ride and I still feel like there is so much more to explore.

I didn't have the skills either but tried my best to learn on the go. The personal growth from this period was huge. If I had a larger capital base to start with it would have made a big difference.

Seeing all those people covering their body outside help me work at the grocery store when I did parking lot duty. I would never be able to do my shift if I didn't copy those people in Vietnam and covered my whole body.

Why would my Vietnamese father cheat on his Vietnamese family, sleep with a white American woman and make me, and then abandon me??? Why won’t my dna match cousins answer my messages? It doesn’t leave a good impression of Vietnamese culture or relations to me

My wifes father suddenly appeared when my wife was 23. I can only think at that time he was young and didn't think about the consequences. My wife is forever scarred though as her Mum abandoned her too.

I'm sorry you went through all that. It's a difficult question to answer. @DevineOne has an interesting point. It also seems quite common in Vietnam to have infidelity. I'm again sorry it happened to you. I think it would benefit to find some inner peace within yourself and learn to let go of the anger, but it is your choice. In the end, we don't have control of what others do. We get to decide how we react to it. I hope you feel better about things eventually. ❤️

0:25 yoghurt in Vietnamese is actually "da ua" (or gia ua; not sure the spelling). Don't think I've heard the word sữa chua, but the direct translation is "sour milk"

Been there almost a year and did a bit of homework before, not too much. No lessons and now I feel like I choke on my own blood when I speak and people yell at me and cram in razor blades in my ears when I listen. Listening is... I want to learn a harder language so long as I can hear what is said 😭😭😭
