    Awesome job. Very clean wiring. Is that circuit breaker switch @6:57 where you have the auxbeam red positive cable part of the auxbeam light management or was that separate? Do you have a video on that setup? Using the switch box

  • @ridgelineoverlanding
    @ridgelineoverlandingКүн бұрын

    I installed that switch panel a couple of years ago and I actually don’t remember if the circuit breaker came with it. I’m guessing not, because I recently installed the six gang panel and a jeep that my daughter had for a while and it didn’t come with the circuit breaker. I don’t have any videos specific to the switch panel, but I’m happy to answer any questions that I can

    @@ridgelineoverlandingthanks for the quick reply. I searched on Amazon and it looks like the 8 gang does include the breaker but the 6 gang does not. Thanks for showing off your setup. It has given me some ideas. I like the use of the split wire loom I’ll have to get some when I start wiring in things. Where did you run the wiring through the firewall for your switch panel inside the cab?

  • @ridgelineoverlanding
    @ridgelineoverlandingКүн бұрын

    @user-kc1ld1nq1w Firewall access…always a good time! There is a big rubber grommet near the steering shaft. I would have pulled the air intake and whatever else was in the way in order to have good access. I originally “breached” the firewall with 0 Gauge power wire for my stereo install. I’m OCD and like to keep my installs clean so I use a lot of split tubing on the outside and Tesa Tape on the inside.

    We had to say goodbye to the Jeep a little sooner than expected. It was a beautiful buggy but the repairs and maintenance were a bit much for a 17 year old young lady. I put a ton of hours into it to keep her costs down but I couldn’t keep up that pace. We sold it to a Jeep enthusiast who’s on her fourth Wrangler.

    Do you miss the Jeep yet?

  • @ridgelineoverlanding
    @ridgelineoverlanding14 күн бұрын

    Not even a little bit. The passport is fantastic. Maybe not as quick as the jeep, but definitely more athletic, better fuel, economy, better reliability. Also, Honda’s SUVs have a flat center consol that is low instead of a big bulky one that also acts an armrest… This allows Oakley to be able to sit there and chill. Also good spot to put my cameras when I’m filming. I just found the interior layout of the jeep wasn’t very conducive to road trips, dogs, filming.

    Yup! There are dozens of cross dtches on this trail and many of them are deep. On the way back I just got impatient and went through them too quickly, so I bent up another tailpipe, and scuff some corners of my bumpers.

    Please, please tell me about your rooftop tent rack! I've been searching for a solution to put a rooftop tent on my own 2021 HPD. Yours looks great.

  • @ridgelineoverlanding
    @ridgelineoverlanding19 күн бұрын

    It’s actually not even a tent rack per se. Soon after buying the truck I also bought with a VanTec P3000 Ladder Rack to carry kayaks. When I got into Overlanding i realized I could put my tent up there. I then started customizing the rack to be able to put gear on the side. Strut channel between the towers, and then molle panels to step it up another notch. I store the tent on top of my utility trailer on a custom rack I built. Sometimes we take the trailer, other times just the truck. Easy enough to slide the tent back and forth between the two. Most people use a proper overland rack. Fastening them to a Ridgeline bed can be a trick, but I think Camping Randy sells a couple racks that fit, otherwise you can put strut channel on your bed sides and fasten a rack to that. I highly recommend having strut channel all the way around the bed. Super versatile!

    We had that 2018 Jeep nearly two years and I never really liked it until this trip. But its fate was already sealed and on day two of the trip I found a Honda Passport on Marketplace. It was at a Honda dealer near home and I offered a straight trade. The next day we made a deal, paying $1000 to step into the 2019 Passport, a much more suitable and familiar vehicle given our 2021 Ridgeline shares a lot of DNA.

I had some very aggressive tires on my last Forester and the stock road tires on the new Ascent drive well are fairly quiet and smooth but nothing too impressive. Traded in my much loved Silverado for my Ridgeline and couldn't be happier. Added a leveling kit at the dealership, the largest BFG's the would fit and I've rarely had issues. Have had to level out a few climbs with rocks but handles most decommissioned roads with ease and glides over washboard like a magic carpet. I tow a modified landscaper trailer with my camping gear and Jon boat, atv fits in the bed. Bed speakers are a bonus when camping in a secluded spot and can't annoy others. Transmission can get warm if the terrain is nasty and loose but other than that I've had zero issues. Definitely the best truck on the market for my personal needs.

    Check out my Best Truck vids as they shed much more light on why the Ridgeline is the best truck for most people in most situations. The Tacoma should only get “the nod” over the Ridgeline if legit “wheeling” is the goal. They are equally reliable but the Ridgeline is a much better “car”. You lose some tow capacity but you get a lot more payload which is important for the “every-day” truck stuff.

    Other than a bit of extra air dynamic drag, I don’t even notice it’s there. It’s 200 pounds, but we have a couple hundred pounds of gear on the base of the trailer, plus the 500 pound weight of the trailer itself. You really don’t notice, and I’ve towed it all the way to the Oregon coast from British Columbia.

    I have the same exact tires on my Ridgeline and same size. I found it needed a break in period for about 300 miles or so, but it has done me solid. I swapped into them after the OEM firestone got a minor sidewall gash and it bubbled. The Cooper R+T AT are durable. I have had two screws in my driver rear at different times. Both times I just found it but neither lost any air. Discount Tire did me a solid and patched them up. Durable tire and I noticed braking is much better. Quiet ride. Really like them. I did take a hit on MPG going from OEM to these, after calculations for odometer difference I'm about 1-1.5mpg down.
