  the thirteen stripes on the US flag were likely given the relationship to the thirteen colonies retroactively-- the first flag they used was the British East India Company flag which had 13 stripes with the British flag in the top left corner, and they only used it not because it had 13 stripes but because they had several handy at the time of rebellion.

  Since 1690. Many types of US dollars/currency have been issued. The Colonial. The Franklin Unique Colonial. The Continental. Greenbacks. United States/Treasury Notes/Silver and Gold certificates. Then... The Federal Reserve notes FRNs we use now were created in 1913. 110-year run. So far. 1690-1913 were not used outside of the USA. Now, FRNs are all over the world.
