    Wow, I think that is impressive you’ve done all that work by hand. Do you have any tips or insights for how you’ve kept your wrist happy with that much scissor use? I did miniature knitting years ago under some intense deadlines, which gave me some repetitive motion injuries in my wrist and shoulders at the time, and I know I tend to clench scissors a bit hard when I’m focused on accurate cuts.

  • @daniwilliamsillustration
    @daniwilliamsillustration16 күн бұрын

    It's never actually bothered me. The hand holding the scissors is barely moving, all the turning of the paper is done with my left hand, but maybe I've just been lucky in avoiding strain.

  • @daniwilliamsillustration
    @daniwilliamsillustration27 күн бұрын

    Hi, yes I've been working in watercolours as a full time artist for several years. I don't really stick to one particular type or brand of paper but I do like Daler Rowney's Langton range for watercolours and their Fine Grain for drawing in graphite. I think finding your style, takes time. At first you just want experiment and play around with different materials, with absolutely no pressure. Pick up a cheap sketchbook that you don't feel too precious about and just doodle. You'll start to see patterns in what you enjoy and what you naturally gravitate towards. I'm planning to talk through some tips on finding your own style in a video soon.

    Hi Dani. Thanks for the great video. I have a question- when you make a print of work you have created in procreate, do you include the paper texture layer, or do you feel the digital texture would compete texture of the real paper?

  • @daniwilliamsillustration
    @daniwilliamsillustrationАй бұрын

    Good question. I usually print on a textured paper that is similar to a rough watercolour paper, so I remove the background from the image as it's not needed. When I've accidentally forgotten to do that and printed the background, it ends up looking sort of muddied. But if I were printing on a very smooth white paper, I'd probably experiment and see what looked best.

    Great video. I’m a digital, not traditional beginning painter, but I love traditional watercolour look and aspire to do real watercolour as well. I got frustrated with the process of trying to recreate watercolour look in Procreate, as it just seems to take so much extra time fiddling and tweaking, to get the look. How do you find comparing the time it takes in Procreate to do the painting vs how long it would take in real media? Keep up the videos. You’ve hit a sweet spot of subject, duration and technique that really interests me. You have a new subscriber. Hope your channel keeps growing, and curses to all the pirates in the world!

  • @daniwilliamsillustration
    @daniwilliamsillustration2 ай бұрын

    Hi, yep it's definitely a very different process in Procreate. Unlike creating pencil or ink effects in Procreate, where the techniques aren't that different to the real thing. I enjoy doing both and would find it hard to choose between them but time wise, Procreate wins just because you end up with a finished picture, on your computer, the background removed if you want etc. Whereas my real watercolours have to be scanned in, 'cut out' away from the background, tidied up if I've gone over the lines too much, tweaked to get back colours or values lost in the scanning. Plus sometimes just the time of getting out the paints and tidying up again. I think it depends what effect you want from the end result. Good luck!
