    Is the thickness 11.5mm? It seems thicker that 11.5mm

    It is 11.5mm. I agree it seems thicker - it's the proportions (36mm) and the boxiness of the case I think that combine to create this illusion.

    I haven't done a scientific test, and I'm usually an automatic watch guy so always get caught out by my manual watches, but it's in the region of 40 hours. Essentially I wind it in the morning, forget to wind it the following day and it's stopped by nighttime 🙄

    Lovely genuine overview of the watch. Just FYI the anti-magnetic properties mean it’s less likely the hair spring becomes magnetized which would cause the watch to keep erratic time. The broad arrow (crow’s foot) - although this is not a British military issued watch (broad arrow indicates it is the property of the MOD) it does, I believe, have a genuine NATO part/stock number which adds an element or credibility to what is a nod to the past/military provenance.

    Great video, thanks. Please consider doing a comparison of the MDV-102 (MTD 1054) and the newer MDV-106, which has something of a cult following here in the United States. A Google search shows the MDV-106 is worn by Microsoft's Bill Gates. Both models are rated for 200 meters and thus feature a marlin, although I understand that mark is going away. I prefer the smaller diameter of the MDV-102. And that older model is now a collector's item--I see two listed on eBay for $450.

  • @WatchesKnivesEDC
    @WatchesKnivesEDC10 күн бұрын

    That 106 has been on my list for so long! I haven't got round to buying one because I already have too many dive watches and it doesn't have the cool LEDs of the 102 / 1054. But maybe I can justify getting a 106 since a review has now been requested ;-)

    A sturdy alternative to a flimsy Fit Bit. Step counter works fine, but not many features available. Stopwatch and timer functions are great. Easily programmable through app. Negative display is fine in sunlight but practically worthless otherwise.

    I'm thinking about buying this wallet, but I'm missing a little loop to attach a carabiner/key ring to it. Any chance it would work to put one through the Swedish flag label? 🙏

  • @WatchesKnivesEDC
    @WatchesKnivesEDC23 күн бұрын

    It's a good idea. Two issues I can see: it's quite a small loop so the carabiner would have to be small, and it's quite thin so I think it would tear through quite quickly.

    Don't quite understand, the Timex Command Shock Digital CAT 54mm Watch is half the cost of the expedition yet other than a tiny change up on the front screen both watches are 100% identical in features and build. So why are you paying more for a watch instead of saving money? I know the display is inverted but still shows up nicely and looks great. Not to mention if you scratch yours depending on the angle of light or sun it will reflect the scratch to your lcd display.

    I am very fussy about thickness and I am more and more drawn to watches that are slim on the wrist. That said, I do not find that this watch looks thick on my wrist. It is definitely appears thicker than the PRS-29, but most importantly it doesn't look thick to me.

    Would you recommend the 20 for a day hike ? I’ve read differing opinions but you seem to know what you’re talking about ! Cheers

  • @WatchesKnivesEDC
    @WatchesKnivesEDCАй бұрын

    I've used mine for day hikes and it was fine. There is undoubtedly better out there, but as a multipurpose pack it's great! It's obviously not massive but for a modest hike there's room for 2 water bottles on the outside of the bag, then plenty of room for snacks, maps, first aid kit, spare socks, waterproof, battery pack, camera... whatever you take on your day hikes. Comfort-wise the straps are nicely padded, but it has no chest strap or hip belt so it'll move about on your back, and it's quite short so for tall people it might rub a bit on the small of their back. And it's sweaty! I find the compartments practical, I like its sturdiness, and it's comfortable enough.

    Why do the numbers on the dial appear to be going backwards? All of my watches would start at 0 and go up but this one starts at 60 and goes down as you go clockwise?

  • @WatchesKnivesEDC
    @WatchesKnivesEDCАй бұрын

    You tend to get both clockwise and anticlockwise bezels - to count down or count up. Apparently the version on this Nixon is how it should be on dive watches, and the other way round has been popularised - from what I have read - by non-divers using the bezel to count how long is left on the parking meter. I prefer the 0-60 personally!

    I am surprised to learn that the crystals of such watches can get scratched. I have two less expensive watches from an inferior brand called Naviforce, and they have held up pretty well without a scratch on their crystals. However, there are scratches on the back of the bands for a gold-plated one, with wear near the case where the watch bands join. So how is it possible that a scratch-proof crystal like those from Casio can get scratched or have scratches?

  • @WatchesKnivesEDC
    @WatchesKnivesEDCАй бұрын

    Unfortunately they're not scratch proof. It's mineral crystal and highly domed so it protudes a lot which isn't a good combination 😞 However, unscratched it's a very handsome combination!

    I obtained the cream colored version. Very nice aesthetic. Strap is very comfortable and simple. Lume is indeed surprisingly bright and long lasting for its type. The height surprised me a bit. A little more chunky than I’m used to but doesn’t protrude too much. Still getting used to that. It looks heavier than it really is. Overall it’s subtly different from what I’ve had and a welcome addition to the collection.

    Nice watch but they bombed on the bracelet, like they gave up and slapped an aftermarket bracelet from AE. Disappointing but this could be fixed with an aftermarket dive strap. 100m? For the price they could have gone at least 200m if not 300m. As much as I like the design those features pushes it down in my gotta have list. Hardened crystal and not sapphire? Ugh…
