Welcome to Not A Proper Classic!
Here you'll find videos on working on, living with, as well as loving (and hating) life with my C124 (W124 coupe) 1993 Mercedes 220ce.
As it was only 29 years old when I got it, apparently it's not a proper classic car.
There may be guest appearances from a Nissan Figaro and other cars crossing past the Not A Proper Classic workshop.

Yeah me too, i want one also 🤑
How did u do the loom that goes behind the bulkhead? That goes to your Maf??? Been trying to work that out?????
There are some plastic flower shaped screws in the bulkhead soundproofing. Thanks these out and the rubber stripping along the top off. Then the soundproofing should come away from the bulkhead giving you space to feed that wire along, and also to get the loom through from the battery into the engine bay. You don’t need to cut anything!
Thank U I was looking at them screws, thinking it may be the way to do it PS I need to have a good look at my Harness make sure I have the Right one
@@leslieleonard699 I tried to lay out the new one and the old one to check them side by side. Then realised k was missing a connector! So had to return the new one and send my old one off to be refurbished.
I see I hope I don't have the same problem 😃 I got my Harness and coil Harness from a company in Germany called Kurth classic Auto parts, the coil Harness was grand and fitted, so I hope the Eng harness does the same, still not sure if I will have a go at it my self, might get a Mercedes guy to do it for around 300 euro, PS I got my Throttle body rebuild off a guy in Belgium called Kay DL he's on face book, have been getting parts off him for some years, his parts are 💯
I hope my loom fits 😆
Great videos u might need to do the Throttle body as well, and the coil hardness, i have 95 E220 my self , I have done the throttle body and coil harness, i have the eng harness there but have done yet, hoping to learn something from your videos 😆
I’ve got the coil harness on order and sileck.co.uk are doing my throttle body wiring too. They did the harness. So part 6 will be coming along before too long!
Look forward to seen part 6
Hi I got a bit worried when U said your Harness at first diding fit and U had to send back? So I just checked checked my new one like U said put across the eng Bay? Still not sure where every thing goes? So I checked the part number of the harness that's on the car, and it matches the same part number on my new one? So I should be ok then ye ye ye????
@@leslieleonard699 If you've checked the part number you should be fine! I didn't until it was too late. But I was luckily able to get my old one refurbished. And i found working from back to front made most sense in fitting the wires and connectors in.
So when fiting wires, did U start from the ECU ba

The Sukura is the electric version of this car. Too bad Nissan doesn't sell this car outside Japan as an electric only vehicle.
I think kei cars sold in other countries would do well.
I’d love one. They’re cheap to import individually but almost impossible to insure in the UK.
I’ve ended up looking on car import websites almost daily for a kei car now. Or a kei truck. I’d love something. And they make so much sense - small and cheap to run. Hadn’t thought about the insurance though…
Reference speaker?
I love it
Lovely 😊

YES, THIS IS THE POLE
Love those things! Big scene for them tuning wise over there too. Roomy and zoomy!
Cheers for the vid dude. My rear shocks were leaking oil. New shocks are around £130 but managed to find a mx5 breakers near by and got 2 complete struts for £10 each. The springs on mine were better, so I swapped them over. I managed to get the struts off and back on with a little difficulty but didn’t need to take any bars off. A bit of wiggling between the bars and they do come off and go back on without stripping anything else off if your nuts are as rusty as mine were. Car handles like a go cart again 😂 with no knocking noises. Time to save up for a complete set of new struts.
You’re a better mechanic than me if you were able to get it out without moving other bits!
Rough and ready more like 😂. The car is 20yrs old, all fittings are so rusty and most nuts I’ve undone in the past just round off due to the condition of them. It would be like opening a can of worms undoing more things on mine and creating more work. It was tricky but perseverance is the key.
I have one wiper also have you noticed the M the wipers make when the screen is wet
I have. It’s the jiggle in the middle! Do wish there was an easy way to make it park up in the centre of the screen - full DTM spec.

Mein S212 hat da so ein Gummiband, das nun gerissen ist. Welch ein Fortschritt!😅

Oh yes. Now that's proper engineering that is. Lovely job 👏 umbrella in a door, pah, have a day off, give me a fuel cap holder any day.

“A proper Harley” what as opposed to what a Kawasaki a Honda a Yamaha of course it’s a Harley you melt
I’m not a bike guy - but I’m sure you can get bikes that look similar to a Harley but from other brands.
Gilbern Invader Mk3 from 1972-4. Ford Essex 3.0L V6 and Cortina suspension and rear axle. There's a few videos of its restoration on KZread. It's perfect :D
It’s a lovely looking thing. Thought it was an old Alfa from behind.
Good video, im going to have a go at this job, seems pretty straightforward, my springs are ok but the shocks are leaking oil, can I re-use the springs I wonder ?? many thanks 👍
If the springs are in good condition I don’t see why not. Good luck!
What’s the clover mean?
It’s the quadrifoglio badge - clover leaf - it’s to Alfa what M or AMG is to BMW or Mercedes.
Agree
Hello. Is it possible to install the rubber without removing the antenna?
I don’t think it will be - as the rubber to a two piece. A bit to go over the top and then a bit to go around the hole. Then again, if you can squeeze it through maybe. But it’s probably quicker to loosen off the aerial and attack it from inside and out.
@@Beechams1042 Thank you for your answer. I will try to install it without removing it, but if I encounter difficulties, I have no choice and I will have to remove the antenna. Best Regards
Before replacing the fuel pressure regulator, it is important to first remove the fuel pump relay and start the engine. This will remove the fuel and pressure from the system, as it is very risky and can cause injury without proper precautions.
Thanks @nakebmohammedi for the tip. I didn’t do that - but I had left the car off and not run it for a few days before. I’d read that leaving it to stand will allow any pressure to fall. I didn’t have any issues luckily. Other than not tightening up the clip properly so when I did run it for the first time it spewed petrol everywhere! I quickly realised and the made sure it was fitted correctly. No issues now!
do you know what the exact fuel pump relay is for this car, as I have the same one.?
@@Gary-GKJ afraid not on the fuel pump relay. I’d have to double check on the car or the workshop manual.
@@Beechams1042 thank you that would be very helpful, really appreciated

Nice job done. What make was the replacement? I ask because we bought complete new rods for mine as the originals had lasted 420K Kms. MB original replacements. We felt that the difference in cost between individual ends and the complete rods was minimal as I was paying to have it done. The control arms - non removeable ball joints - were a little costly at 500€ each. Ouch!
I got them from AutoDoc. Ridex is the brand. Not MB and won’t last as long. But fit my budget for now!
Good luck dude. fyi ive always had the bulb out light on when headlights are set to stage 1 and its never affected an mot
Good to know!
Is the colour code 904 midnight blue? If yes, I have the same colour and the same wheels on my 280E
It is midnight blue. Used Lastvin.com to get the details.
@@Beechams1042 cool! I'm kinda disappointed that it's just called "dunkelblau" or dark blue in German :D Have fun!
That is disappointing!

Why wasn’t the crank on the original loom???
I’m not sure. I may have ordered the wrong one.
Nice job…respect for having a go…
Thanks. Once I’d got the correct loom it wasn’t too bad. Just a case of trying be methodical about it.
Thanks❤
How much did it cost you ?
It’s not mine - just spotted in a car park and it looked nice.
I think the high ride height is due to tightening all the fasteners when the wheel/hub is in free air with no weight on the suspension. Can't remember if it's just down to one or all the fasteners you loosened in the wheel arch. It's to do with the rubber bushings.

14 pound now. Takes too long to inflate my Prius tyre. I bet it will burn out with repeated use.
The plug fell apart with me so it didn’t even get a chance to burn out. Lasted maybe 4-5 uses!

I’ll get round to putting a new wire in - once the other issues have been sorted!
Coil pack
Thanks - I’ll also take a look. Also think the throttle body spring could do with a clean and lubrication.
@@Beechams1042 your wiring looks ok…peel back around the front and injector’s and see if any copper is showing,.,., sometimes a complete loom is not needed.. Have you replaced the fuel pump.? When was the plugs and coils changed??
@@redpig1120 the loom needed doing. The wiring had degraded as I doubled checked it before removal. The spark plugs were done two years ago and will be done soon on the next service. Fuel pump seems fine - and it’s definitely sending fuel through but I’ll change the fuel filter as part of the service.

You should use vented disk
Thanks @popov1100. But I figured as the Fig isn’t exactly the quickest thing around, and quite light, solid Micra discs would be fine. May get vented next time though.
