Just a damn shame how the music business was obliterated.

What is Bob Dylan's singing style? ...".... For much of his career, though, Dylan has embellished his singing in ways that are too far outside the parameters of normal pop singing to be called simply “unpolished.” He slides between notes, sometimes abandoning melody altogether in favor of a speech-like...". I can do the previous but more than this I have a finger original melody. Who cares about a hook if no melody??

Wow this was filmed in 2010? From these 'creative methods' it seems more like 1210 (ancient history). So artistically immature, unsophisticated, musically uneducated. Thought songwriters would be smarter in the streaming era because of having so many educational resources available, but apparently not. 3 years to write a song? Publishing contract mandates 12 (only 12!) songs per year? Wow songwriters' standards are low, very low, very very low. I wonder where these songwriters are now in 2020's, ten years later.

I have written many songs but was lacking expertise playing guitar. Now I'm focusing on creating the music that was in my head. You have to know your instrument. So build on more than chords. Listening to songs that you like and learn the tricks to add embellishments. Express feelings with words and music too.

This is really cool, thank you so much for sharing. I love how this was put up in 2010, and now a decade later you can see that Steve Moakler has real success with over 300k monthly listeners and millions of plays on his own music, not even including the music of people he’s written for. This documentary has aged like a fine wine in that sense - they both had great points but you can tell he’s a great songwriter to the core.

Lol, I really don't mean any offense but now I am 14 minutes in and I am thinking that a better tittle would have been "Why people hate singer-songwriters"! 'xD Really, I don't know if it's the directing, editing, soundediting, composition, the actual songwriters covered or (most likely) a combination of all of the above but it really sounds and looks like a compilation of all the typical things (singer-)songwriters tend to say that drive them dangerously close to sounding like pathetic and overly fragile softcore hipsters in the ears of the public! =')
