Daniel Heland

Daniel Heland

~Songs of Light, Songs of Darkness~

Daniel Heland is a composer and music producer based in Austria.

From frame drums to mouth harps, from folkish pipes to nyckelharpas, from ethereal choirs to large orchestral arrangements, the music is deeply rooted in the Fantasy genre. It evokes worlds of myth, struggle and an ancient beauty - soaked in cinematic atmosphere and profound emotion.

"Like a young fox jading beneath thick roots, I crawl under her cloak of mist. I lie beneath her ancient knowledge of death, and yet I am unafraid."

Hey, thanks a lot for getting in touch. I used choirs/vocal libraries from Strezov Sampling (Mostly Balkan Vocal Quartet taking the lead) as well as patches from Ethera Gold Atlantis. I combine those two developers a lot in my music. The solo voices from Atlantis add definition to the Strezov choirs. Additionally, I did record some whispers mysef and processed them. I think it's the combination of realistic libraries and sounddesign that gave this track it's particular atmosphere.

Hairþra (plural) is a word coming from a now extinct East Germanic language called Gothic. It translates to „entrails“ or „guts“, but in a figurative sense it can mean „heart“ as well. Words are symbols. To me, Hairþra can be a symbol for something that is buried or hidden in the within, not just in a physical sense, but with a historical or a spiritual meaning; obscured, yet vital.

Thanks a lot! I'm glad you like it. My DAW is Reaper. I use Kontakt, SINE (Orchestral Tools) and Engine (Best Service) to load virtual instruments. The instruments themselves are too many to mention :) I combine and layer libraries to find the right sound. My favorite developers are Spitfire Audio, Orchestral Tools, Eduardo Tarilonte, Strezov Sampling and lots of smaller developers as well. Please let me know if you are interested to know more details ;) It's actually one of my favorite topics :)

@@koustubhd883 Alright! The choirs are Wotan and Storm Choir Ultimate (Strezov Sampling) and Metropolis Ark 2 by Orchestral Tools. The other voices Shambala by Strezov Sampling and Ethera Gold Prometheus. The Tagelharpa is by Karoryfer Samples. Brass and Wind instruments are mostly Ark 2 and Modus (Orchestral Tools). The classical long strings are Peteris Vasks Strings by Orchestral Tools, the Short Strings Pacific by Performance Samples. The other "non classical" strings are by Strezov (Jade and Balkan - those libaries are more flexible than just Asian/Balkan sounds). The percussion is mostly Zero-G Elements Cinematic Rhythms, Hans Zimmer Percussion (Spitfire) and LA Modern Percussion (Audio Ollie). There many other small sounds included, most of them transformed in my DAW to blend together and create atmospheric soundscapes.

At the beginning of the song melancholy invaded me, the soft and slow atmosphere filled me with a strange sadness... But then the song ascended and I understood that the dawn had arrived and that the sun was rising. At that moment I was invaded by an immense joy, so precious that I almost burst into tears. Lately I've been a little sensitive because of a lot of things that have happened in my life and I think this song caused me so many feelings for that very reason. Right now as I write this some tears are falling from my eyes, but I am smiling, they are tears of joy. You are a gift my friend. ¡Please keep going! This song reminded me of the words of Professor Tolkien: "Yet dawn is ever the hope of men"
