What's really sad about this quote is that it's unfortunately not true for a lot of people. Or at least it's far more complicated than just choosing to be good. Fitz learned this firsthand. People in the real world often can't choose to be good because of their circumstances

I hate Coulson and May for what they did to Ward. They were such hypocrites. Coulson had tye audicity to ask for his help after trading him to his abuser. May called him a psycopath, clearly unaware of the word's meaning, set him up to kill Kara ( imo she certainly knew what was gonna happen she isn't an idiot) and when he wanted revenge, she acted like she had moral high ground, Coulson let May and Hunter loose thta day and he became abother factor in Kara's death and when he faced with tge same thing (Rosalind) his reaction was no diferent than Ward's. These two did everything Ward except one (betraying SHIELD) and they still had the nerve to call themselves the good guys

They had no reason to trust Ward's word about Christian and it was Ward vs SHIELD as a whole - obviously one person isn't more important. She wouldn't have deliberately wanted him to kill Kara, she couldn't really change her own face could she. Ward was worse than SHIELD even though they both did terrible things.

When I first started Agents of Shield, Grant Ward became my favorite character right away. I still loved him after he betrayed them. When I heard that line why he chose Hydra, I forgave him and when Daisy was telling Coulson why he chose Hydra I wanted Coulson to not kill him.

I really really wish we could've had more of season 1 Ward come back into the later seasons. The closest to a redemption act he got was Framework!Ward and I guess in the end it was better cause we knew he wasn't pretending to be good like he was in the first season. Still, the writers didn't want him to become something better and every time it seemed he wanted to help or tried to get on the team's good graces they drove him back to the road where he would never gain their trust again.
