The retcon shows that Bardock and Gine sent Kakarot/Goku to earth to escape from Planet Vegeta's destruction, not destroy it. So my guess is that Kakarot raised by Grandpa Gohan would likely still grow up to be a hero, although a bit more rough around the edges.
