Can’t put the weapon on safe when there’s no round in the chamber. The real Hooten says it in the documentary he’s in. Cool scene, but I’m not a military expert, was Navy.

Hooten was interviewed about his scene many years later. The scene is based loosely on a real incident. He explained that their practice at the time was to keep the rifles in a condition where it was un-chambered and hammer down, thus disabling the ability for the selector to be on safe. The weapon was not “unsafe”.

You can always tell who the good officers are by seeing who listens to their experienced NCOs. They may not always agree but they always give them heed.

This actually happened. The Delta Force Operator was Norm Hooten. He has given interviews about this “confrontation”. He said he didn’t have any bad blood against Capt. Steele they just had different procedures and it was just bad timing, being in front of the cafeteria and all.

I was a Logistics Marine. And for about 6weeks I got attached to Recon (stateside) cause their logistics marines were on another training assignment. My Sgt warned me they’d be a pain. But actually they were a lot of fun. And after the whole assignment was over they let slip from their inventory a Combat Tomahawk…K-Bar and a heavy military undercoat. And those were very important to me once I would deploy a couple months later. So most vets know there isn’t usually tension between the Elite and Others (lol) but usually between the branches

Just because you are a badass doesn’t mean you can’t practice good gun safety. Delta or not, an NCO wouldn’t disrespect an officer like that. Especially an Army Ranger officer. Especially, especially in front of his men. Delta dudes are more professional than that. They get it at the utmost level of getting it.

It still surprises me changed this interaction. The delta operator had a zip tie through his bolt, rendering it inoperable and making the use of the safety impossible. His quip to the ranger was sarcasm because of how idiotic the request was. Now, the movie removed the zip tie and presented it as a dick measuring contest.

The fact that so many of these actors aren't Americans really shows just how good they are at their craft. They are very convincing as U.S. soldiers.

Band of Brothers also had a large British cast.

I'm reminded of the defunct 90's military sci-fi show Space: Above and Beyond. One of the marine pilots tried an impression of their Colonel as if he were a plumber. Naturally the Colonel was less than amused. But the pilot saved it saying "Imitation is the highest form of flattery sir!" Too bad Sgt Pilla never saw that show!
Delta /SF isn’t gonna do that. Cut the chow line and be a dick about it to Rangers. Your weapon is your weapon not my business. There is immense respect between SF and Rangers. Immense respect no matter the Tabs or outfit if you’re on our team in uniform shooting in the same direction you’re family. That said… Rangers still lead the way hooah
