Is the SHTT a rare variant of the 500? How many of the SHTT were made? And what does SHTT stand for?
@comet68857 ай бұрын
They were/are rare sirens due to poor advertisement by Federal Signal Corp, thus leading to only a smaller amount being ordered and made. The SHTT in it's name stands for "Single Horn Two Tone"

Possibly the coolest. They designed and engineered this unique, massive dual tone rotor/stator that clearly does its job fantastically well, and then just abandoned it and never used it for any other subsequent model. Try to think of another rotor that they never used in more than one siren. The STL-10 is the only other one i can think of, but there’s nothing particularly special about that one. It’s just big and low pitched. This one has curved rotor vanes, angled ports, one of the only directional rotors Federal ever made. It’s clear that a lot of thought was put into it. I’d love to know the reason why it was made, and the reason why it never got used for any other purpose.
@thunderbolt100316 ай бұрын
@@MarcusToroian they aren’t curved. They’re straight vanes just like all other Federal sirens. Stator is bidirectional too. They did that purposely so you lose no performance if it’s wired backwards. It was a much more mature design overall though. Super cool machine
@SirensAndAlarmsOfNorthernIL2 ай бұрын
Fr. These things were also used in the design of the 2001, and were made to be a more reliable option than the Thunderbolt which it was a great job at. Only problem with it is the belt driven rotator. That is why they created the 2001-SRNs which are basically 500-SHs with the chopper assembly reversed and they put it on a Thunderbolt rotator as it’s much better than the 500’s rotator. IMO they should’ve kept the chopper assembly how it is and kept the overall design of the 500 the same, just put a DC motor into it which is the same one as on any 2001 and put it on a Thunderbolt or 2001-130/Equinox/508 rotator. Then we would still be able to have dual tone sirens which would be more distinct from other sirens and background noise, and be louder than a 2001
