  If stream passes through a culvert, can use this calculation to determine cross-section area: kzread.info/dash/bejne/g5hoy9OFY7azm7w.html. Then multiply that by flow rate. A method for flow rate is to use fluorescent dye. Dump in eco friendly dye upstream, downstream take many samples, the velocity variation is accounted for across distribution of fluorescent dye concentrations.
