I thought I would make some how too videos about mostly Scanner Radios and how to do things, I have been in the Scanner Radio Hobby for almost 50 years and thought I would pass along things I learned about the hobby and scanner radio listening.
Hope my videos will help you with enjoying the Scanner Radio Hobby More. Also will be making videos about HF Radio.

AOR make scanners that are “government level” meaning they pick up encrypted transmissions. You need a special permit to be able to buy one.
Ah ok.
never seen them do this before, good catch!
Sorry in the video it says Uniden 436 scanner, it should be SDRPlay RSPdx Receiver, I inserted the wrong information. Saint
I'd love to see a vid of your radio set-up and this discone antenna you have, and where it's located. Being right on the edge of the lake helps, but I'm maybe 15 miles from Lake Erie myself.
I'm on the fourth floor 40 feet up, of a six-story apartment building, facing North and have a discone antenna on a tripod out on my balcony. Using a 436 Uniden scanner, quarter of a mile from the Peace Bridge and Lake Erie. Saint
I won’t link it but defcon had a recorded presentation on how they decrypted P25 traffic. You can easily find it.
Orchard park NY police encrypted their signal for a very good reason. They don’t want everyone to know they have 30 cops making 130k a year, yet they get 1 call a day lol. It would be over the top to have 1 cop in this pampered town lol. They’re protecting their jobs because they don’t want the public to know we’re wasting money.
Awesome Video
I had both and when comparing side by side, the 436HP is the better scanner. If simulcast is your main issue, go with the SDS100. The 436HP has better audio, and better sensitivity in VHF/UHF, will decode more DMR & NXDN channels, AA batteries are in every store, and can use just about any SMA antenna.
How do you use the quick keys??
Is the freq 235100.00?
NO, it's 235.100 AM , this is MHz
Israeli encryption.
Found out this is the Israel Military, PSK Signal Encrypted. Saint
Is this similar to ADS-B?
Yes, if you do a search on google for hfdl all the information about it comes up. Steve

Thanks David, I'll keep them coming. Steve
Cool stuff
Yes, Multipsk is just one of many decoder programs that you can use to decode different digital signals on HF.
Hey awesome video man. Can I use a random wire to receive this frequency
Yes, I have LONGWIRE antenna on my 4-floor balcony, facing east and west, about 75 feet of speaker wire.
@@stevestdenis7884 thank you for the info i really want this frequency..we had sky master all week long man!
@@stevestdenis7884 i think it has alot to do with iran and isrl..

I'm got into the hobby, I started with the baofeng UV-9R. its getting few good Freq but im wondering if you listing to CN/CP and if its digital or analog. military freq i didnt even think of. i like the joke you made about the scanner.
I listen to the railroad frequencies in the Niagara area around Fort Erie Ont. AND Buffalo NY. they are analog but some are changing over to NXDN digital, it's a slow change over going on, I only have one or two frequencies that are digital so far. I also listen to Military Aircraft, just do a search in the military air band 225-380 MHz and see what you can pick up. Thanks for subscribing to my channel. Steve
What scanner program is this? I have a handheld one for over here at BTV would love to be able to have this!
PROSCAN Software, Flashback Pro screen recorder. Steve
I own 3 SDs 100 and ñow there's new update on the SDS 100 that you can lock in the SDS 100
Good comparison, but the biggest comparison you never mention was the differences in the Displays. Which one can you see better in the Sun? I'm trying to decide on which one to buy, but the display and brightness on the SDS100 looks amazing compared to the 436.
It really depends on the conditions outside, they vary from scanner to scanner. Saint
Is this available on SDR sharp??
Double speed playback is not fast enough

Good morning from Wisconsin. I setup my SDR DUO and Diamond discone to listen to this traffic.
Great news, good luck and enjoy your listening. Saint
Cool.
Excellent catch. Totally cool channel.
Thanks for the nice words, I will make some more up. Saint
Excellent content. I have a sds100 also and love the airband. Thumbs up 👍🏼
Thanks so much, it makes me want to do more KZread Saint
@@stevestdenis7884 you ever pick up military air at this time? I’m in bowmanville Ontario by the lake and it’s quiet. Listening to OPP.
Down where you are you can just scan the military band and see what you come up with.@@gtpyyz Saint
Excellent catch. I have that programmed in my SDS scanner but i barely use it. Should turn it on once in a while. Thumbs up!!
Thanks for the reply, I listen to it all the time because I'm so close to the AR-206L Track. Saint
nice. how did you mamage to do that? tools / softwares ?
You can get encrypted signals but it needs to be set up by IT of the PD you want to receive if PD approved it
what number goes in IP port as can not read it on the video ??
127.0.0.1.10110 in AISMON, IN MAPS PROGRAM, NETWORK address is 127.0.0.1, network port is 10110. Also make sure you have cable output set to virtual audio. Steve
@@stevestdenis7884 thank you. Works perfectly
Or perhaps you know someone who works at the shop (in my area Motorola owns such a shop) that sells and installs the equipment (body worn radios also) in new police vehicles. Money talks. And it can speak the language necessary to obtain encryption keys.
Clear signal! What receiver did you use for this radio recording?
Online live aircraft sites
@@stevestdenis7884I'm picking this up Pretty clear in Kentucky on an RTL-SDRv4 100' wire antenna
Good stuff. I'll be speaking in phonetics the rest of the day!
Thanks, I'll try to make another KZread with better audio soon. Steve
You’re absolutely right. If it’s encoded to a specific system you can hear it as long as you can receive the same system - if it’s encrypted no chance and even if you did have equipment to pick it up, you have to have a security key and good luck with that.
It is a winlink signal. Most winlink signals use multiple modes on a single transmission. Examples being PACTOR, MFSK blips, OFDM, PSK, anything. These ham radio transmitters start activating during serious outages, ranging from power to internet, or other infrastructure. They are designed for hams to put emergency messages by multiple means
I tried decoding the signal but had no luck. Steve
@@stevestdenis7884 winlink isn't really designed to be decoded.
This video could have been one minute long and actually demonstrated what you were talking about.
Thank you for your input.
ALE
It's not ALE, I decode ALE signal with Multipsk
Vara hf ?
I get 50 plus hits a day on airband can be aircraft right over low on various radar or airfield freqs ie 10 miles away high on Airways, I use a garex aerial cut to various bands, one vhf centre 127 mhz this hangs out of window
And at airshows or sat and end of military Base, u get air to air and uhf squadron or air display performers as well and if course ground fm users at the airfield, and indeed great for any events
The SDS 100 keypad lock, is fixed. It can be done through a firmware upgrade
can I type in frequencies
Yes, put in whatever frequency you want to listen to into your scanner and run it. Steve
@stevestdenis7884 great now I can listen to my favorite railroads thanks.
@@dutchvanderlinde154, Also Proscan Software for scanners will do the same thing, it has a built-in feature that puts your scanner on your computer screen full size. Steve
@@stevestdenis7884 Thanks so much for all your help steve.
Thanks for the video. Pretty neat stuff
You're welcome, glad you found it interesting. Steve
Great digital mode. Too bad FT 8 practically buried all other digital modes. 73 de PY6FX
I totally agree with you, if all the other users (ie Olivia, RTTY) would stay away from the ft8 signals it would be easier. Everyone is jammed into a little piece of the Band. Steve😊
I thought aircraft was AM?
Aircraft are AM. Steve
Is it possible to add a system manually from the database list? thank you
LCN FINDER LCN Finder helps you determine the correct LCN (Logical Channel Number) settings for those systems requiring LCN entry. You first need to create the system. Use any number as the LCN when you create the system, then run the LCN Finder by: MENU → Analyze → LCN Finder The scanner prompts for a trunked system. For LCN Finder to run, the system must currently be scannable (in an active Favorites List or Main Database and within the range set for scanning), and must be a type that requires LCN (EDACS, LTR, MotoTRBO, DMR TIII). Enter the first few letters of the system name, then press E to see a list of all matching systems. Scroll to the desired system, then press E. A list of scannable sites for the system is shown. Scroll to the desired site, then press E. LCN Finder mode starts. Once all LCNs are found, you can save the LCNs to the system. If you abort before all LCNs are found, you can still save the LCNs that were found up to that point. Note that LCN finder works best on systems with moderate activity. Too much traffic or too little traffic make LCN finder take longer to complete for most systems Steve
We can thank all those running around with a police scanner while breaking the laws, for this encryption! Now they can take down drug dealers etc......
Supposed to be able to listen to any signal, especially if it's our tax dollars paying for it
Exactly. This is the government turning on us and getting away with it. Some cases have been won to get transmissions public.@@fifthlomat717
Well, they're not doing a very good job taking down all these supposed "drug dealers" with all this modern technology that they have. In my opinion, if we're paying for this, we should have access to it. The last thing I remember is the taxpayers are still paying for all of this.
Right, so we are getting it from both ends.@@Ma007rk
i think there are worse issues in the world than drug dealers
