Your speech that I just listened to covers a lot of ground not covered by your fellow topnotchers. This sets you really apart from them. This is why you are No. 1 and Class Valedictorian. I particularly like your: “faking it until you make it” . mind set; “it takes a village to raise a bar Topnotcher;” reference to character formation (mention of Prof. Te). To Christian, Bar Topnotcher No 2: comments on your speech: Attention grabbing opening, nicely articulated. I like the way you deviated from most of the speeches of your fellow topnotchers. You talk about your observations about the glaring differences between the privileged status of your batchmates vis-a-vis those who had to take public transport after the grueling days of tough exam. This shows your social sensibility, a trait that will readily make you empathize with your clients as you practice law very soon. Your speech inevitably bares yourself as soon-to-be a lawyer steeped in the values of social responsibility with your strong social sensibility and responsibility as you promote contribution to scholarship fund, four to five years from now.

To Bar Topnotcher No. 3: I see the glow in your beautiful face as you pour out your heartfelt emotions and your expressions of gratitude to all those who walked with you from your College of Law days up to the successful barf exam days. You speak almost extemporaneously, look at your notes sparingly. This is a good public speaking practice. Keep it up. That you experienced hunger on the 3rd of the exam as you forgot to bring your lunch and still performed well in the exam is an outstanding display of your resilience. Congrats!

You can expound on the majesty of the law, with a little theatrical skills, to the delight of the audience, the judge, etc.

The third speaker, among the topnotchers says he is a nervous speaker. But you have what it takes to excel in public speaking. You have a good voice, you speak with clarity. Your speech is well crafted, cohesive, the transition from one idea to the next is seamless. You deliver it well although you read your notes. As you grow and give more speeches in the future, you will improve as a public speaker.

No. 23 used filler words “so,” “ah;” “uhm,” . This is normal. But this public speaking weakness can be corrected by practice. Join a Toastmasters Club, speak at least once a week, and this malpractice will disappear later.
