Ifidi is my favourite of all the passes in the Mweni, but you had to do it in real wet conditions, which looks like quite a journey.

The pass you mistook as Pins the first time, is called Rwanqa pass. It is another of those navigate-your-own-way-up-between-steep-grassy-slopes-and-small-cliffs kind of Drakensberg passes

The right decision to go down. In fact the best decision would have been not to go up in the first place in the rain. I went up with RiaanG (of VE) in January 2018 from MCC - no cheating with lifts. It was incredibly hot and we finished at the top in the dark. In fact once there we had to hike north to find water, before going back to Icidi Cave. From where you turned around it gets a lot tougher and there are still three scrambles. Scrambling up small rock faces is not my idea of fun but Riaan and company were not phased. Also, you miss such epic views in the clouds. Great video, thanks for sharing. I really hope you get to do this stunning, but tough pass one day.

Great scenery, but keep in mind that monsoon does not occur in the winter, and is not synonymous with "rain". The monsoon (meaning a shift of wind from the south that creates the dynamics for powerful summer thunderstorms) only occurs in the summer, and our rains (typically in December and March) are just that, winter and springtime rains, and are not related to the monsoon. Historically, summer monsoon thunderstorms have been a lot different from the quiet (no thunder or lightning) light rain that has come in the winter, and the medium level rains (again, no thunder or lightning) that has fallen in March. These rains have had their own sets of seasonal features, and have been very different from the others. Thanks for sharing your lovely photography of our beautiful region.
