  I remember seeing this movie opening day, in 3D, and boy, this scene hits a lot harder wearing the glasses. And the sisters actively freaked me out, and I was fifteen when this came out.

  I feel that the so called presence of their ancestors are the memories they have of them and if Kubo's father really was dead then the lantern wouldn't light up anyway because only his mother maid memories with him

  the way she corrected him to grandfather then called her sisters and him monsters. she sees their bad people and have become monsters “they are monsters!”, but she still knows its her father and sisters.
