Do you have any info on the titanium middle piece? I saw a news piece that was a horror story on a different design that has the ball and cup, the part that inserts into the femur, and a third connecting piece. The third piece wears out, gets microfractures, then just gives out unexpectedly. Yet they still use them.
No, I don't have any information on what you're describing. Is that a separate ball that attaches to the stem that is inserted in the femur? I think my mom's implant was designed that way. Mine was a single piece stem with ball as far as I know. Are you worried because you have one like what they described or do you have hip replacement coming up soon?
@@Life411 I luckily have the two-piece, but need my other hip done, and watching videos on it came across one that discussed the hidden dangers of this design. My current one is a Stryker(?) which was recalled a couple of months after being installed due to leaching cobalt and chromium. Got blood tested and was told my levels of cobalt and chromium were negligible and of no concern. That was back in 2011, haven't had it checked since. Doing okay knock wood. But the model discussed in the news piece has different size connecting pieces that are meant to provide "a more custom fit". Just looking at it, it doesn't look as strong as the two piece model. The most alarming thing is that it is apparently still marketed and used. Not sure what the ball and cup pieces and the stem pieces are made of, but the connector piece is titanium alloy. People in comments on that video were saying that titanium gets brittle and can fracture in time. I had always thought it was near indestructible. Thanks for your quick reply!
Sure thing. Sorry I don't know more about this. Not sure I buy the Titanium getting brittle comments...they use it for commercial jet turbines! Regardless, my whole implant is Titanium with a ceramic ball and high wear plastic cup liner. I trust my surgeon selected the hardware with the lowest defects and complication data - at the time. Hope you're able to get some comfort around what they're installing for your second THR. Wish you all the best! It can be overwhelming.
Better to be cautious thanks for the info
Thanks for watching...hope you'll check out my other Hip Vlogs.
Well done with all your videos...I'm excwecising in the pool which is much easier ....but some of yours I can't do in pool so I better get cracking ...not creeking thanks so much
💪 You are very welcome and thanks for watching! Sounds like you're well on your way to recovery. Wish you all the best.
Everyone certainly is not on the same trajectory, but everything you’ve documented has been extremely helpful.thank you so much for the thoughtful postings, I’ve learned more from your vlog series than anything else…day 4 and still in the fatigue stage…
So glad my videos have been helpful. Thanks for watching and I hope you find my other Hip Vlogs just as helpful in your recovery. Hang in there, it definitely gets better! 😺
I am in day 3 after mine and your video gave me a lot of encouragement. I am in the”blah” stage - want to go do something but can’t get that leg to cooperate. Thank goodness my husband is great! Had not heard about sitting, so will do more laying and less sitting.
Glad you found the videos helpful... Hang in there, it gets better 💪
I am not agree with you , they help you and you so cruel😅😅😅
😂 thanks for watching
I want you to know that you are really prepping for my hip replacement in 4 weeks. Thank you.
So glad you found my videos helpful. I hope you'll check out more of them. Thanks for watching and good luck with everything. 💪
Lovely design LOTUS EMIRA!!
Thank you for this information. It makes so much sense. Im only one month out, now I know . Not much pain at all. Just a pulling behind my knee what up with that?
My pleasure, glad you found this information helpful. Thanks for watching and happy healing!
So... A cat is important for recovery?
Sure! 😸
Toradol (IM NSAID)... was a life saver blessing for me!
Interesting, I don't hear of Toradol very often. I used Diclofenac and Meloxicam which helped me get by until THR. Just curious if there was any particular reason for Toradol over the others? What part of the world are you in? Thanks for watching!
@@Life411 Had the hip and knee surgeries in Albuquerque, another knee in Tucson. My friend had hip surgery today and she called and said they gave her Toradol and it really helped, did not make her groggy. She is in Michigan.
@@kathleenpira Hope you and your friend are both doing well in your hip recoveries
@@Life411 Mine was in 2012 and I am 100% happy~
No mention of numbness or burning, stinging pain in thigh, soft tissue! it could be a nerve injury temporary or permanent.
In one of my video I talk about this. My operative thigh burned like crazy the first 10 days...then I got my first massage and asked her to focus on the quad/thigh, but to stay away from the hip. It hurt like crazy, but the very next day it felt a ton better! Hope this helps.
Nobody talks about descrepancy in leg length even though its apparently common problem PLEASE, ANY COMMENTS.
My surgeon said it is common for the operative leg to feel longer for up to a year, but that often this goes away over time. There are, however, cases where the legs are actually different lengths...it must be hard to figure out if it's a normal discrepancy or a problem one. Hope this helps.
That car don’t hold a candle of a c8
Everyone's entitled to their opinion. I hope to own a C8 one day as well. 😎
I own Dalby car detailing on FB in Australia...I have been looking for a show car to buy...after watching this..I think a Lotus might be on the way...
Very cool. Let me know if you do decide to go the Emira route. Then I could call myself an "influencer." 😂
early post-op from anterior THR the swelling of my quadriceps/thigh was the primary issue requiring focused attention. regular icing kept swelling to a minimum. now at 3-4 week mark the swelling is down but now that muscle area from below incision to the top of the knee just feels different. I’ve heard people describe it as “numbness,” but it’s an unusual and unique sensation I’ve never had before and the only remarkable, persistent “muscle” sensation and discomfort remaining that is markedly different than what I experience as normal generalized “soreness” that feels more “bone-like.” interesting paradox trying to “rehab” a muscle group and partially damaged nerves while avoiding activities that include the micro-motion leading to fibrous encapsulation that could inhibit optimal bone healing around implants.
Walking....and maybe Massage. So much information about THR recovery is inconsistent and can be confusing, but the one thing that everyone seems to agree on is that walking is the best form of exercise to recover from THR. I've done more walking in the past 18 months than ever before as it replaced running and biking (the first 9 mos). I mention massage because My operative thigh burned like crazy the first 10 days...then I got my first massage and asked her to focus on the quad/thigh, but to stay away from the hip. It hurt like crazy, but the very next day it felt a ton better! Hope this helps.
Congrats-chuffed for you. 3 years is a long time to wait so your patience is commendable. Your car looks great in yellow and I like the alcantara seat inserts. Not sure about the steering wheel esp if it gets greasy from your hands. Touching reference re your Dad, I am sure he would approve/understand. Did something similar myself-placed my Dad's Air Force Command pilot wings in the glovebox of my 69 Lotus Elan so he could once again be in an Elan(having owned a 71 Elan coupe that I grew up with) and be with me on every ride. Looking forward to your updates as you get to know your Emira. Have enjoyed your 4c and Elise videos also-cheers.
Thanks so much for watching and sharing your thoughts. Especially about your dad's wings. I share your concern about the alcantara steering wheel and I'm in the process of buying some washable gloves so they have something to wear when my hands might be dirty like after plants and volleyball. Have a great rest of your weekend! Peter
Congratulations! I'm glad that you seem to really like the Emira so far.
Thanks, I do! 👍
I just finished my break in at 1200 mile road trip. Car is amazing. So much feel, adept handling, engine has surprising personality, particularly at the top end. I use a smaller thermos or water bottle in the side door panel. I only use the cup holders for small items. Also, I had the dealer put in a Lithium battery. Improves weight and performance distribution a little. Fyi I use 2 Lotus bags for right behind the seats. Works well!
Thanks for watching and for sharing your tips for the Emira. I'll have to see if the door compartment would work for me for a water bottle. Do you mind sharing where you purchased the Lotus bags?
Thank you oh so much for All your videos! very thankful 😊🙏🙏🙏
I am 5 months post op right hip, out of most pain but still feel i need 2 or 3 more months to feel comfortable.
Sounds about right. Sorry for delay in replying, I've been travelling a lot and just catching up on some comments that I missed. Happy healing and thanks for watching!
Congrats.
This was a nice summary. The part about your dad was touching. Could you see this being a potential daily driver or strictly weekend?
This is my daily driver. Already driven it to play Beach Volleyball Doubles twice this week. Still sorting out how to keep it clean... Especially with the Sand 👀😎
Here is STIG from Tokyo who finally have received word (and a VIN number) that my i4 AMG will arrive around that 3 year mark as well. I truly enjoyed your “run in” video, and I also feel it is touching that you carry along an urn with a portion of your father’s ashes on your drives. I am your eager supporter and will continue to follow❣️
@@stigbjorge2579 Thanks STIG. Sorry for the delay, I have been travelling a lot and somehow missed your comment when you posted. Look forward to hearing how you like your i4 AMG Emira! Thanks for the kind words!
Congratulations! Thanks for taking us on your journey
Thanks so much and thanks for watching!
Thank you. Wish I found you earlier
Glad you are finding my videos helpful. Thanks for watching and wish you all the best in your hip journey! 😸
You are evidently much more fit than this 77 year old. I have been bone on bone for almost a year. I cannot imagine playing volleyball. I hope you do a recovery video to see how quickly you recover. I send you good wishes.
I'm 56, so you've go more than 20 years on me. My mom was 78 when she had her hip replaced last year (6 months after mine!) and her recovery was very different from mine. Do you finally have a surgery date?
Good video pete Great that you are back to your sports I am 4 months out from my second total hip in the last year and 58 yrs old After this last hip , I had some femoral nerve injury and palsy in my quads that has almost totally resolved now I started Pilates at 6 weeks which really helped me recovery . I’ve been in the gym almost daily since week 3 , ride the stationary bike daily since week2 I’m training hard to get back to skiing next season so i have just started back to cross fit and it’s feeling great doing dead lifts , squats , box jumps, burpees etc . I did water ski last year 6 months after my first hip but haven’t downhill skied yet . It will be 10-12 months post when I get out next winter which I feel is a good period of healing . I will be wearing padded freestyle shorts just in case and I won’t be doing anything too crazy but can’t wait to get out there And I will be returning to old timers hockey next winter also I completely forget I’ve had it done they feel so natural and I’m so thankful to not be in arthritis pain any longer Thanx for posting
Thanks for the feedback and background on your hip journey. Sounds like you've got a plan to get you back on the slopes next season. Workout and Abs today, maybe a bike ride if the weather holds. Volleyball tomorrow! 💪😎
Man thank for people like you im going in for hip surgery and my doctor hasnt told me much went to the pre op but very little info so thank you
Glad you found this video helpful. I think you'll find good tips and info in some of my other Hip Vlogs, so hope you check them out. Best wishes for a successful surgery and recovery!💪
So glad I found your channel. Thanks so much.
You are so welcome! Thanks for watching!😸
This video is informative. I replaced my right hip 14 years ago and my left hip 1 month ago. And comparing the 2 base on modern technology, I would say I have more scope with the 2nd THR than the first. But I am recovering nicely
Glad you found the video informative and that you are recovering nicely. Thanks for watching! 😸
I wanted to thank you for what I will be going through next month. I firmly believe that your Orange Ginger who looks just like my Orange Ginger will get me through this. They are the best cats, affectionate, loyal, cuddly, never leave your side. Thank you for your experience and your path to feeling better. I know that I can do it.
Thanks for taking the time to post this comment. Your kind words are the fuel that keeps me going producing content. Wish you all the best in your hip journey. And you're right, ginger cats are the best! 😸
All my setbacks have been self inflicted 😢 I live alone and keep over estimating my strength, then I'm back to square one. It's not a procedure to easily do alone. I've had a spinal fusion and a fractured femur. Healing was much easier.
Sorry about your setbacks. I empathize as I suffered several myself even though I thought I was being super cautious! Hope we can both avoid any more. Thanks for watching.
Yes; the medical profession needs to make more accommodations for people who live alone. This is MAJOR surgery, yet they ship you out the door the same day as surgery, and think you will be just fine because folks who have help at home 24x7 do just fine. Medical profession and insurance companies need to get a clue.
What if bilateral hip replacement?
Good question. From what I have learned from folks undergoing bilateral THR, it seems about 80-90% is similar. Hope this helps.
Can you tell us who Dr K is? I’d like to search for his information
No, he's retired.
Darn
Did they enter from side?
Yes, my scar is on my side. Anterior.
Does it feel weird having the fixed metal in your leg, and a longer leg? Because the natural flexibility is now gone, right. So when you bend into it, it won't give and flex?
I don't notice that at all. The joint operates just like it used to. True, bones have a little bit of flexibility and elasticity, but not to the point where it is noticeable.
Thanks for the detailed analysis of pain and set backs. I am 7 weeks Post Op and feel already like I had a set back. In your experiences, did you feel pain centered deep in the hip. I stopped using a cane, but now when I sit for awhile and get up, it is painful deep in the joint only. it gets better when I walk around for awhile. I see my doctor this tuesday and will ask him for an xray. your thoughts? thanks!
My pleasure. Sorry you are suffering that pain. In my case, I don't recall ever having serious pain in the hip joint except very temporarily. It seems like my pain was always in my thigh. Sorry I can't be more helpful, but please let me know when you figure it out as it may help others. Wish you all the best. Peter
I'm just glad Lotus are finally delivering cars to the states. I'm a Corvette enthusiast so I can relate to supply chain and wait time issues. Enjoy your car and here's wishing you many miles with smiles.
Thanks so much! Driving to the dealership now 👀
Who was your doctor please?
Sadly, he retired about 6 months after my hip replacement, so no point in sharing his name.
@@Life411 Sometimes people as so they can look up the credentials of a doctor who is making claims; they don't necessarily want to have said doctor do a surgery. Just offering that as a thought. You mentioned your doc in the video as an expert who now does teaching, so I think it is totally acceptable for people to be curious about him and want to check his background.
@@VickiKunkel I understand some may be curious about my surgeon, but he is not a public figure, so I am not going to share his name and don't have continued contact with him.
