  Let me share my horrible experience of last October during our 7 day trip to Srinagar. The whole trip was organised by a ‘trusted’ tour operator who was referred by a friend. Very soon we realised that we were victims of blatant day-light robbery! They all were respectful, but shamelessly, quoted more and more money for trips, quoting absurd reasons and hitting on our conscience!. My friends who accompanied me were too embarrassed to argue and we ended up coughing up the amount. The tour operator even planned our one night stay at his own home (Rs 4000/- per head), and the family acted hospitable. That was the most horrible night stay of our trip….no heating system, a common wash room outside the bedrooms (with open windows with no panes or curtains), no hot water to drink in the night (despite asking for it); I woke up in the night to sounds of some creatures scrambling all over the false roofing!. We were also forced to part with a lot of money at the ‘pony rides’ and ‘ATV ride’, with continuous haranguing for heavy tips, with even Rs 2000/- each being insufficient. This is just the tip of the ice-berg! So tourists, BEWARE and do your home work before you venture out into the 'Paradise on Earth'!! I have great regards for the locals, but tourism in Kashmir has been hijacked, and needs to be seriously re-organised by the tourism department, else it is going to paint a negative image of the beautiful place.

  Kasmir is a fraud land. And very much unsafe for innocent tourist. Avoid the place if you have enough experience of tour.

  And biggest issue is that while bargaining your day can be ruined if u start discussion with them... There are both good and bad ....but i felt kashmir trip became very expensive for normal people who wish to travel....

  Add to that.. Gum boot, dress scam... Most of the times its not necessary... Taxi fellows are not trustworthy... All vendors, taxi fellows are interlinked.... Most of them misduide.. And Tips.. Yes its really disgusting.. Foer everything they demand tips... Not request... Not a good trend... Fortunately we got a guide, though its not necessary at gulmarg has helped us when we faced some issues... Thats the only good thing.. All othrrs including our driver were a bunch of looters.. We knew all these scams beforehand, we did not become victims... Yaarana holudays, pluto... These type of tour operators are cheaters.. We got cheated by yarana holidays, shimla based?.... They promise something, deliver something else... Hotels are... Some 3rd rated staff, food...

  Humare sath v pahalgam wala scam hua h rs4000/pp diye .. pr ek do point hi dikhaya baaki idhar udhar koi v spot dikha diya. Ek roadside pe jaha thodi baraf thi waha bola wo baisharan valley h.. but tab humko PTA nai tha .. but wo point bas ek roadside point tha.. I would never recommend atleast pahalgam to people
