Neuer was always overhyped. Everytime he couldn't rely on an elite defense line to help him sweep and he had to actually save shots... well, he was humilliated. The truth is that sweeper keepers work only when you are clearly superior to the oposition and can grant some spaces in defense, but you can't win a WC or a Champions Leaue depending on a sweeper keeper. When you're matched with the opposition, you need an actual keeper who takes the responsibility to save shots

There are plenty of things chelsea can do to improve results next season and get higher placements on the table, and they would all come from logical and common sense decisions at a footballing level, however the owners dont think about the best interests for the club which should be footballing level decisions. They're going to make decisions solely based on finances. A prime example is them trying to sell gallagher despite him being a very crucial player for us this season. Using him next season will definitely be a plus, but because he's pure profit they will just try to sell him to the highest bidder.

Nah not for me, great way to beat the first line of press through a sweeper keeper, they know how to attack quickly, when they receive the ball, they know who to aim for, and not to kick into rose end or into an opponent's feet and add pressure onto a certain team, you would have had to coach teams or have been a goalkeeper yourself to see that their tasks are much harder and more meaningful than staying in your own six yard box. Every manager has to have their own philosophy, Pep's and Arteta's philosophy is to keep the ball, suffocate and penetrate teams by not letting them have the ball in their final third, keeping a high line, hence the reason they need the likes of Ederson, Ortega, Raya, or even Ramsdale to cover their own half for loose balls so that the centre backs aren't having to chase those. Don't know why you added Zidane to that list by the way, he's only ever played counter attacking football for his Real Madrid tenure and had Keylor Navas and Thibaut Courtois in goal, not really known for being sweeper keepers in the modern game. Professional football is more serious than what you make it out to be, I wouldn't get an obese sunday league bloke to take care of goal, it would downplay the position in general.

you dont need a keeper who's excellent on the ball, but you need one that is good enough, without good outfield decision making and distribution, gk like de gea for example just launch the ball aimlessly forward, the pressing team win the header and be on the attacking position again. Watching Milan with Maignan and with Donnaruma was like 2 different teams completely, gk distribution swing the momentum of the play entirely

Ederson is a fantastic example,he is overrated in my eyes because he lacks the reflexes and diving power needed for a keeper and his unexpected save ratio is lower than the average keeper

@@OT-FUTBOL For City, who face at most 3 shots on target per match and an average of 70% possession, a keeper with excellent distribution is much more beneficial to the team. The ability to be calm under pressure especially when pressed, the ability to distribute the ball short, medium and long range accurately and the ability to sweep up the ball when needed allowed teams like City to maintain possession better, build up from the back, play around opposition press, play a high line and go direct and long when needed. City have a better shot stopper in Ortega but his distribution definitely can be an issue when he is pressed or when his long pass missed and cause a turnover in possession. There's a reason why Ederson is the starter despite having Ortega, and there's a reason why Pep Domination of the PL start when Ederson was signed

juventus wasn't the only one who suffered when CR7 joined them. Cristiano also suffered in juve as his juve teammates weren't of the same quality either in football skills or in mentality when compared to his Real teammates. That's why even though his spell at juve was quite good on individual level, it was nowhere near as good as it was when he was a madrid player. I think the transfer to Juventus was a bad move for both juve and CR7. Juventus could have used that money in the rebuilding of their aging team and cristiano staying at madrid would have helped him win more UCLs and Ballond'ors
